If you have Verizon/Verizon Fios phone service, call tech support and they will block a number for you. This service is free

A response from Lewisville, Tx PD: I was forwarded your information for review and action; I spoke with a Verizon security representative and explained the circumstances you're experiencing. I was informed that this appeared to be something the telephone company does to troubleshoot lines and identify problems before they become actual problems, but calls shouldn't actually connect to the numbers their computer dials. Verizon asked if you were a customer of theirs, but since I did not know if you were or not, I told them so; they believed you to be a customer if you received this call and this is the cause. Verizon said that it shouldn't happen again, but if it does, you can contact them at their Nuisance Call Bureau, phone number 800-257-2969. This particular office of theirs is located in San Angelo, Texas, and they should be able to backtrace the number that called you.
