Leave a CommentI received this call also. It is apparently from the American Ins***ute of Cancer Research. I continue to be surprised at how uninformed many people are about unsolicited phone calls. There is information all over about this subject. I am somewhat familiar from previous experience. If you are registered on the "Do Not Call" list you may still get these types of calls from time to time. Charities and certain nonprofit researchers with surveys and political groups are exempt by the law. That said, you may still ask them to take you off their call list, (but you have to tell them!) and they should comply. It can take several weeks to do this, and they are allowed that time by law. My suggestion would be to call the number back and ask to be removed. I just called the number and took the otpion for more info when prompted. If you coninue to listen you will receive the option to not receive further calls. Enter your phone number and it will be read back to you for confirmation. Your other option is for them to continue to call you repeatedly. If possible simply screen it through your caller ID or let it go to an answering deivce or voice mail. I prefer to ask them to not call, it is much simpler, and will save you grief in the long run.
Recieve calls almost every day from this number. Today I was home and when I said*****o it was nothing but silence and one othertime when I said*****o it was silent. And I am on the Do Not Call list.
This has been happening to me as well. Calls once to twice a day and if we answer it no one is there and they **** up. Either it says DC Wireless or Unknown name comes up..same number 202-367-9102.
This has come up on my caller ID (AICR) often in the last few weeks, if I answer there is no one there, if the ma****e answers it is silent. I am on the NCL and it still comes through.
Received a call from this number this afternoon (Sunday). There was actually a person on the other end. Said she was from the American Ins***ute for Cancer Research. Wants people to mail out solicitations to their neighbors. I told her NO. I did ask another question that she had a ready answer for. My question was why their calls come up on caller ID as Cellular Call? Is this because people are more likely to asnwer a cellular call than one froma toll free number? I ask to be removed from their phone list. We'll see what happens.
Even if the caller is a charity and you are not on the DNC list, they may not abandon calls like that. File a complaint with the FTC. You may do this for abandoned calls even if your number is not on the DNC list. Also, if you did get a person and have requested them to stop calling and they continue to call; this too is illegal and a complaint should be filed. A***n, your status on the DNC list and their status as a charity is unimportant to this violation.
I've received repeated calls from this number. As soon as my answering ma****e picks up, the call is terminated. I answered once myself, with the same result.
The number calls me about once a day (for the last 5 days) and presents me with silence. I note (through Google) that this same number has been bothering a number of people, and with the same treatment. Caller ID is AICR according to the reverse lookup facility. If he's being a general pest, perhaps someone who knows how to should ask him to cut it out.RSB
