Leave a CommentGot the same call from a lady saying free money asked for info on my bank and gave me a number that is disconnected to ask for john cooper with my id code what a joke .
Just got a call myself. Given 202-621-0158 John Cooper. Exactly the same stuff have not called. Will not call. Obvious scam. Be careful folks. Dont give out personal info
Got a call from a number of unknown origin, the called, Joyce Lee, advised me that I had been preapproved for a $7000 Government grant that I never have to repay. She then confirmed my name and address. Asked for a credit card or debit card number, I gave her an expired card number with a new expiration date to it. She gave me a number to call a John cooper and said that I have to call right when I get off the phone with her. I called the number and John cooper answered, asked if I had any money on the card, I told him no. He said I needed at least 40 on the card in order to have the funds deposited. I asked him why and his reply was that the amount to be deposited was a large amount and I needed to have at least 40 in there for this deposit. I told him I have to call him back friday and ***g up. Believing that this may be a scam I looked the number up and it comes back to an unpublished cell phone in D.C. My number was YA335.
EXACT same scenario with me!!! DO NOT give them ANY information. They will steal your iden***y!!!
I just got a call from a woman with an Indian accent congratulating me for being the recipient of a $7000 Government grant. She went on about the fact that I had been selected because I do not have a criminal record, pay my bills on time, have not filed bankrupcy,.... She asked how I would like the money delivered. I said by check in the mail. She told me they were no longer sending checks in the mail because of problems in the past and that I would need to give her a checking account or credit card number. I told her that was su****ious and I didn't feel comfortable giving it to her. She gave me confirmation number for my 7K grant and the phone number of her supervisor to call (202)-621-0158 and confirm that I was the right person to receive the grant. I didn't call the number. Instead, I googled "$7000 scams" and the whole scenario that I had just experienced was repeated over and over a***n by others. The woman called me back in 20 minutes to ask if i had called her supervisor. I told her no. I went on to tell her what I had found and that I knew I was being scammed. Her supervisor (who I couldn't be transferred to during the original call) took the phone away from her mid-sentence and s****ed getting upset at me for not wanting the "free money." I told him I'd gladly take the free money if he would send it to me by check in the mail. He got angry and ***g up. The original call came from an "unknown" number and the woman said her name was Lucy Murphy. The apparent supervisor's name was John Cooper. Both had thick middle eastern accents and were difficult to understand. It's a scam. Do not give them you're information.
