Leave a CommentYou've pretty much got it right. As a young man, I worked those phone rooms, seems like another life. I guess we all did things as kids we're not proud of, but at least I got out, I know guys that still do it, very sad. Any rate, generally the split was 55/45, 55 to the fundraiser and the rest to the FOP. Out of the 45 that the FOP got I would be willing to bet less than one percent went to the kids, no way to know for sure, just a guess. The 55 percent for the fundraiser is devided up evenly, drivers don't make any money, callers (in a good economy) could make between 600-1300 a week and the manager could clear 1200 a week. Don't ever waste your time or money, get the breakdown in writing before you even think about opening your wallet.
Someone called from this number and I answered, but they didn't say anything.
***g up when I answered.
wanted money, was rude.
Just got a call from a man who said he was calling for the Jefferson County deputy sheriffs'****ociation for a donation. I told him I could not afford to make a donation, to take my name off the list. When I checked my caller ID...it listed "unknown caller".
They've called my home phone, which was forwarded to my cell phone. When I answered, they ***g up. A few days later, I got another call from a similar number (205-314-0998), with the same results. As soon as I say "hello", they **** up.
---This is not first-hand knowledge, but second hand. I knew someone who used to collect for the "FOP".-"Mr. X, this is Mr. y from the **xyyy**xyyy County Sheriffs' Department. We are operating our fund drive for officers who were injured in the line of duty... "---This is what is commonly known as a s**** from the good ol' FOP (Federal Order of Police). Never indulge any personal information or give any money to these people. Local police departments and Fire Departments do not solicit for moneys. This is a scam, and though a portion of the money will go to the FOP because they are using the name, 60%-70% will go to the driver who picks up the checks (the most dangerous part of the job because it is after all, breaking the law), 30%-20% goes to the person who hired the s****ed telemarketers and the remainder goes to the establishment they are asking donations for, less the hourly wages for the telemarketers. This may not seem like a lot, but you must consider the fact that businesses will donate tens of thousands of dollars in one check.---A***n, government agencies such as the police and fire departments do not solicit moneys. The red cross is where you should donate if you wish moneys to go to these establishments. To simply end the telephone conversation, just state that you deal only* with the Red Cross. Do not be worried about being rude, if you live in the deep South and you hear a true Yankee on the other line, or someone who sounds so Confederate you know it's fake... there's your answer. Vice versa for living up in Fargo and hearing someone from New Orleans on the other end of the line. They are not from your area, they are not legally taking donations, do not offer them any money or information.---FYI, It is always best to use a limited vocabulary when dealing with unknown callers. Do not use the words YES or NO, use "alright" or "nah". If your voice is being recorded, it can be used for accessing telemated operators with your* voice... like agreeing to having billing for international calls transferred to your phone using 3rd party billing.---Mention "FOP" in your denial for offering funds and see how quickly they will **** up on you. If you hear the term FOP, they'll know that you understand they are not legitimate.

I got the call today at 5:05pm (205-314--3062). I always check to see who's calling. When I did answer, I got the dial tone.
They have called 3 times this last week. The first call was around 9pm on June 10th. They didn't say anything when I answered. The second call was on June 12th around 9pm also. My husband answered and ***ody said anything. They called a***n today on June 15th and ***ody said anything.
Called today about 5:45....unavailable, so I didn't answer...thank goodness for the internet so I could look it up!!!!
It is the Alabama Sheriff****ociation trying to get money from you. I think they are immune from the DNC list like political money solicitations are...
Call then they **** up. Sometimes they ask for meney if they stay on the line. It comes from an address in Birmingham on 19th street North across from Lynn Park. That is as far as I could trace it.
I screen my calls and if it's not a number I recognize I just let the answering ma****e pick it up. Just as the answering ma****e message was ending, I heard "Ah, yeah," from the guy on the other end and he ***g up. I suppose they don't want my support.
Has called several times. Always ****s up without saying anything or leaving a message. Caller id says unavailable
Called 2 minutes ago and just like everyone else got the dial tone. If it's the ASD why do they **** up? I'd like to put my ***nd new shiny boot right up their ...! You get the picture!

Yes same as everybody else. Somebody do so****ing. What about the do not call list?
They called my house and I wasnt home but the number came up on my caller ID but they didnt leave a message it's quite annoying. The number came up as Public Safety so I thought so****ing was wrong because I have family in the area. When you call a person's house you should leave a message or answer when they pick up.
These calls from this number (205) 314-3062 are borderline harrassment and getting on my nerves

They call from time to time around 9pm. We answered the first time they called. It was the "Alabama Sheriff's****ociation" calling for donations. We don't answer this number anymore. Their caller is always says Unavailable.
