I was selling a car on ebay and he tried to get me to accept and cash a check. SCAM

This guy has a texas number but he could be anywhere in the world, accents sounds either mexican or russian or Ukrainian but could be in Africa as well, guy is an idiot he thinks he can fool people.

Yep. This dweeb messaged me on Autotrader as well. Knew it was garbage and wondered if others had the same thing happen... And whaddya know. Kind of feel like setting this guy up if possible.

Kevin called to buy my friend’s car in San Francisco. Kevin he was in Texas. Wanted my friend to delete his Auto Trader ad. Kevin wanted my friend’s address. I told my friend it sounded like a scammer and then I looked up Kevin’s phone number. Omgggg, I knew it! Beware.

Responded to my autotrader ad, claiming to pay full price + $399. Asking me for name, address to send me the check, also take down the ad. Didn’t bite.

Offered to buy my truck listed on auto trader. Offered to pay $399 over asking price.

SCAM. He is trying to steal cars by saying he is going to send funds and ask you to remove the listing.

Selling a car on Autotrader, "Kevin" sent a fake check for several thousand more than asking. His fake check was picked up by FedEx in Madison, MS although he uses a San Antonio cell ph#. I'm taking his check and all his correspondence to the sheriff for prosecution, felony check fraud.

Autotrader buyer. Wanting to pay $399 over asking price. Would over night check and arrange to pick up vehicle after check cleared. Very sketchy texts insisting I provide name and address.

Got a message from this guy. I always look phone numbers up... Then I promptly replied "Sorry. I don't sell Audis to people named Kevin. They tend to smell like unwashed ****. Carry on. ;)".... I feel justice was served this day.

Same story as other posters, exact same text. The cost to me is that he got me to cancel my add with AutoTrader. I had to pay $50 to reinstate. Maybe Kevin gets kick-backs from AT.

Said his name is Kevin and he wants to pay 399 over my asking price and will send me a check. I just need to give him my address. Glad I checked on the web for this fraud number. Don't be a VICTIM!

Vehicle listed on Autotrader. He asked a couple of questions and included this phone number for future correspondence....when it's just as easy to type on Autotrader's site. I already nearly got bit by that on Facebook Marketplace. Wanted to send me a Google Verificiation code. Beware of that one too. Just text them on the trusted sites, there is NO need to give these creeps your phone number.

Goodness, I'm glad I checked here before letting him know my number. He's writing me right now. Thanks to everyone for posting. AUTOTRADER.

He messaged me on Autotrader... I knew it was a scam right away.. especially when the 2nd thing i wrote was ORGINAL OWNER! than asked if I was the original owner.. ****in S***bags!

Selling a vehicle on autotrader. He sent a business check for 4000+ more then agreed price. He was not ***ociated with the business per a phone call to the business. SCAMMER!!!!!

Scammer strikes again!! Told my boyfriend he’d buy his truck for what he was asking, said he would mail a cashiers check and have someone come pick it up. The guy, who went by the name kevin, eventually stopped replying so I decided to come on here and check out the number to see what I could find and well… **** that dude

SCAMMER, SLEEZY CHEATER! Same scheme to pay more than the asking price for my hotrod Ford with a bogus cashier's or bank check and then wanting a refund of the difference! Low cl*** waste of skin!

AutoTrader scammer. Sends text offering more than the purchase price, hoping to scam the seller into refunding overpayment, while the check sent for payment bounces.

auto Trader scam

You probably have a lot of inquiries since they are scamming buying vehicles. They are sending a larger check from a company for $4000 over the asking price that you are to pay the driver for pick up with extra. Then before the check has time to clear they want you to send the remainder of the check back to them wire transfer. I found this out from auto trader and notified the person to pay auto trader but they sent a check Fed x I have contacted the company that the check was written on and they have been having this happen. Their bank is aware.
