Bogus, Scam

The call is from Capital Recovery****ociates, Inc. who operate under the name CRA Security Systems.  They are a debt collection agency and even though their practices are legal their ethics are questionable.  The way they work is they buy debt that a company has written off, say from a credit card company for pennies on the dollar.  Anything they can collect is then profit.  Along with buying the debt though they are also able to obtain all information that went along with that account, including SS# and any other information that would have been provided during the application process.  Part of the reason for all the annoying phones calls is the following.  John Smith applies for a CC and gives all the required information along with a contact name,  say Bill Smith.  After a year of using the card John defaults on the card and now cannot be reached thorough the attempts of the CC company at which time they write the debt off of their books and sell the debt and John Smith’s information to CRA.  CRA’s action after trying to reach John is then to call all the Bill Smith’s they can find usually in an increasing distance from Bill and John’s last know address.  Problem is that it is usually a 1 in 50 chance of finding him, In essence they are on a fishing expedition.  Their overbearing and questionable phone etiquette is specifically designed to elicit a specific response, usually of intimidation and worry so they can either s**** to focus in or to eliminate Bill Smith as a lead to get to John.  All of CRA employees (also the names they give are not their real names) are trained in this technique.  The best way to get rid of these people is to call them back and reference the number they called.  When they accuse you and mention an amount you owe and that you can either settle up or they will turn the matter over to the IRS, ask for the last 4 digits of the SS# on the account, deny that it is yours, ask that them to remove your number and any number they called trying from this inquiry.  If you want to help stop this type of practice ask the employee from CRA for the correct spelling of their name and mention that you will be filling a complaint with the Attorney General for the Sate of Pennsylvania.  You can find the information you need here:  http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=403

Received a call from 215-279-9325 asking for my brother, said they were filing papers. When i asked them to leave a message they gave the name Kristy Hartman and the call back number 877-245-1482. Then after I asked them for a name of the company they represented, they ***g up.

yeah, sounds like a call center, leaves a reference number...? very brief and unclear...

Is this a bs caller?  The guy is calling and saying he is an attorney looking for my brother in law and that my name and number was left as a contact on so****ing.  He is saying so****ing about a file number but it doesnt sound legit.  It sounds like he is in a call center somewhere.  Anyone know anything about this? Also 414-433-1630 came up on the caller ID.
