how can one rid themselves of this random calling? They are calling a cell phone for a disable man. This phone is only for his use in getting himself emergency****istance. HELP !!!!
I ended up suing Academy, and they wanted to settle out-of-court. The following is even better.FTC's Press Release........http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/11/endor*****ts.shtmFor Release: November 21, 2008 Nationwide Debt Collector Will Pay $2.25 Million to Settle FTC ChargesAcademy Collection Service, Inc. and its owner, Keith ****stein, have agreed to pay $2.25 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that Academy and its collectors misled, threatened, and harassed consumers; disclosed their debts to third parties; and deposited postdated checks early, in violation of federal law. This is the largest civil penalty the FTC has obtained in a debt collection case.“These defendants are responsible for their debt collectors’ abusive practices,” said Lydia Parnes, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “They ignored people's complaints and rewarded the collectors who broke the law. This is not a business model that the FTC tolerates.”According to a complaint filed by the Department of Justice on the FTC’s behalf, Academy collectors violated the FTC Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) while collecting debts, and ****stein failed to stop the violations. The complaint also names Edward L. Hurt III and Albert S. Bastian, who oversaw Academy’s Las Vegas collection center and who are not part of the settlement with Academy and ****stein. The individual defendants allegedly parti****ted in, or had the authority to control, Academy’s practices. Academy’s collectors allegedly engaged in false or deceptive threats of garnishment, arrest, and legal action; communication with third parties about consumers’ debts; and calls to consumers at their workplace when the employer prohibits such calls. Other practices included frequent, harassing, threatening, and abusive calls; unfair and unauthorized withdrawals from consumers’ bank accounts; and early deposit of postdated checks consumers submitted for debt payment.More than 1,000 complaints a***nst the company were filed with the FTC, various state attorneys general, the Nevada and Pennsylvania Better Business Bureaus, and the company itself. The FTC alleges that, without sufficient investigation, the defendants dismissed consumer complaints or did not properly discipline collectors, and that collectors who were terminated for FDCPA violations often returned to work within a few weeks or months.Under the settlement, Academy and ****stein will pay a $2.25 million civil penalty. The consent decree bars them from misrepresenting to consumers that nonpayment of a debt will result in the garnishment of wages, seizure or attachment of property, or lawsuits, or misrepresenting that Academy representatives are attorneys. The settling defendants are also prohibited from improperly communicating with third parties about a debt; using false, deceptive, or misleading representations in debt collection efforts; communicating with a consumer at any unusual time or place, including the workplace; or harassing, oppressing, or abusing any person in connection with debt collection. The settling defendants are also barred from making any withdrawals from consumers’ bank accounts without obtaining the consumers’ express informed consent, and they cannot deposit or threaten to deposit any postdated check or other postdated payment instrument prior to the date on the check or instrument. In addition, the consent decree requires the settling defendants to clearly and con****uously disclose to consumers that they may stop Academy from contacting them about the debt. They also must notify consumers that they may contact an Academy physical address, e-mail address, or toll-free phone number if they have a complaint about the way the company is collecting the debt.By a 4-0 vote, the Commission authorized staff to refer the complaint and consent decree to the Department of Justice for filing in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. The complaint and proposed consent decree were filed on November 14, 2008. The order was entered on November 18, 2008.NOTE: The Commission issues a complaint when it has “reason to believe” that the law has been or is being violated, and it appears to the Commission that a proceeding is in the publicinterest. The complaint is not a finding or ruling that the defendant has actually violated the law. This Consent Decree with Academy and ****stein is for settlement purposes only and does not cons***ute an admission by these defendants of a law violation. A consent decree is subject to court approval and has the force of law when signed by a judge. The Federal Trade Commission works for consumers to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices and to provide information to help spot, stop, and avoid them. I got Academy to stop calling my cell phone in April 2008. However, the calls resumed in September 2008. Now I have filed a lawsuit a***nst Academy. Once a***n, Academy has stopped calling. I made a statement to these s***bags that I am not the debtor and that I don't have any information about the debtor. Apparently, they are just too dumb or too su****ious to believe me.
215-320-0424, 856-668-4132 and 800-220-0605, "David Mason" at ext 4355 are from Academy Services - they call me constantly for people I've never heard of -
Received a call from 215.320.0424 indicating they (Lynn Starr) are trying to reach someone by name of Andrew White (I don't know this person). The message indicated they were lead to believe they could reach this person by contacting me and asked for a call back regarding an important matter that needs immediate attention at 866.227.0605.
I got a call from 215-320-0424 today. Told them they had the wrong number. He said no. Well, today was not a good day to call that number he thought was right today, or even tomorrow, next week, or next year either.

Polite, professional, etc...academycollection.com doesn't care about abuse complaints - after all, that's what they do for a living. But perhaps PAETEC might.Abuse:[email protected], I know the web site doesn't make these calls, but the company the site is for DOES. PAETEC is the IP, therefore it is ENABLING academycollection.com's unscrupulous business activities BY PROXY. you might want to see what their mission statement is real("PAETEC's corporate mission is to be the most customer and employee-oriented communications provider.")You may also want to inquire as to networksolutions' role in enableing academycollection.com's business practices.REMEMBER, with enough complaints directed at the ENABLERS, they might just decide it is BAD business to DO business with Academy. Also, remember that "TOLL FREE" numbers are only free to those making the calls. The company actually has to pay (yes, cost THEM money). The more calls the better (public phone booths are good for this).Contact EVERYONE listed above by Whois that is in any way, shape or form connected with Academy. e-mail and the "toll free" 877 and 800 numbers. If this is done REPEATEDLY, and by EVERYONE, Academy's IP will very quickly tire of it. It is much easier to throw the customer ****demy) under the bus than to try to defend their actions and be the recipient of angry comments from the public. In short it is bad for their business!
I have them call me everyday on my cell phone and now they are calling my parents house which I haven't lived there for 25 years. Do I really want my parents involved in this. I don't think so. This company calls and bothers people all the time. enough is enough. I'm sending my letter today.
They ****arded my cell phone with recorded messages. I made the mistake of calling them and asked them to take my phone number out. It didn't work because they don't care. My lawyer friend suggests that I send them a letter stating that I am not the person they are looking for, that I do not owe any delinquent debts and that I want them to stop calling me. In accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), after I make these statements, they have to stop. If you want to do the same, you should also copy your letter to the Pennsylvania State Attoreny General, the attorney general of your state, and the Federal Trade Commission, who is enforcer of the FDCPA.Here are the addresses that you will need:Academy ServicesATTN: Nancy Fortino10965 Decatur Rd. My lawyer friend says that these people don't use their real names, which suggests to me that they are doing so****ing illegal. The attorney generals of the respective states can determine what state laws they have broken.
there call all the time i hate that and now calling my cell phone help
Academy Collection Service, Inc. 10965 Decatur Road Philadelphia, PA 19154Phone Number Local: (215) 281-7500 Toll Free: (800) 220-0605Facsimile (215) 281-7512https://www.academycollection.com/It looks like they are a collection company that uses an automated phone message system. It is difficult to get a hold of someone to get them to stop calling me, cause there is no human to talk to.
I just tried to send a fax to Academy Collection Service, Inc (ACS) at (215) 281-7512 and 215-992-8966 but guess what. That number automatically contact me to a number out of the country. I feel this a way you cannot send them a letter to inform them not to contact you a***n. You must send them a letter stating that and they must remove your number from their call center and not contact you a***n. It is the law. It is under the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICE ACT

received a call and message left seeking two people with same last name as ours...two return #s left on ma****e and a name - Cody Miles? Stated it was very important that if we knew these two people we should contact immediately or have them contact as it was EXTREMELY important. We will not be calling either # - 215-320-0424 nor 1-800-220-0605 since they cannot provide reason these two people are being sought...suspect it's a scam or so****ing. Not a vendor as we are on both state and national 'do not call' lists.
They call me too. This time they left a message, and a name of someone they are looking for. Jessica Ruckter. I picked up the phone during the message and interrupted the caller to say there is no such person here, and they have the wrong number. Not knowing who these people were, I wanted to make sure they were able to locate this person, and that this person, Jessica Ruckter was not here. They would not give me any more info on how my name was****ociated with her. I do not know Jessica Ruckter. They said my name was****ociated with her, regardless. They confirmed my own home address!!! I repeated I did not know this person, and they said they would take my number off their phone list. I asked if this was related to a financial matter, and they said no, it was nothing like that. I was thinking of iden***y fraud, but the caller from this phone number said it was not pertaining to any inden***y theft issues.I don't know---------- They may call me back.
I receive this number on a frequent basis. When I answer the phone, no one speaks until I **** up. I have no debts, period. Is there any way I can file a complaint?
Got a call requesting that my sister contact them. As I am sure she has a phone, I won't be passing any information along.
You can call 800-220-0605 and leave a complaint, but I am pretty sure this is a scam and so is the complaint line.
Won't stop calling after I say they have the wrong number (calling for Rebecca and Monty Meacham). They then call right back and **** up on me. Also had calls from the same number, area code 615.
I get calls from this number and never is a message left. Every day I come into work I see this phone # on my Telephone display as calling after-work hours and before hours. How can these guys be stopped!!!!!!!!
I am getting these calls with ***ody there, but I know what it is. The automated caller system dials numbers and if there is ***ody available in the office to take the call the computer has made, it just ****s up. Remember the "Te****apper"? It works. I have loaned mine to a number of friends and am getting it back today. All automated calls get the signal that the phone (it is hooked up to) is no longer in service and after 3 calls the computer takes that number off it's list. It works.
I get these calls once or twice a day. When I answer, no one is there. If I don't answer, they don't leave a message. I've also gotten the same type of call from this other number 215-992-0662. I've stopped answering calls from (215) numbers because I don't have any outstanding bills. The only conclusion I can reach is that the person who previously owned my number does have debt and they are trying to reach that person.
This number calls just about everyday and no one is there..They **** up or say nothing, so I **** up. I have no outstanding bills.
I recieved a call from this number it was the supervisor calling for my brother who i havent talked to in two years. He harrassed me about where he was and was EXTREMELY rude. Currently in the process of finding the corporate numer to report him.
Call every day several times a day, no messages left on my cell phone. They **** up if you answer.
***g up on my voice mail - no message left
they call every few hours and never leave a message if i answer no one is there but no dial tone either
This number has called me 3 times in a row and I never got any messages either. I am at least glad I found out it isn't anyone I would know. people are annoying.
Get repeated calls from this number on cell phone. no messages are ever left. they call at exactly 8:30 and 10:30 am. The one time I actually answered they ***g up on me. I googled the number and its some collections service. i have nothing in collections with anything i owe! check this number on complaints.com and you'll see someone elses hassle with this number. STOP calling my cell! Maybe they will stop if i send them my cell phone bill next month.
