phone rang from my area code, answered and no one there.  called it back and got a fax signal then dead air.  i s****ed entering numbers and # and * but the connection did not drop.

When this number calls and either you answer or your answering ma****e answers, there is an odd series of tones. Not a modem or fax sound. When the tones are done, and it is really quick, the caller id info is erased from your ma****e and your answering ma****e acts up. Needing to be res****ed or reset. Has been calling my home off and on for a few weeks now. Called the phone company and they say they have no record of such kinds of calls. Why am I not surprised.Has to be up to so****ing. I can't see messing up your caller id and answering ma****e as a real goal. So what is it up to?
