Leave a Commenttelemarketers pretending to be with the US government. Spammers, do not give them any information. They are also making fake posts on these boards to throw people off about them. The US government would only call from an "888" number -ONLY and your caller id would list as"US Census". Any thing else is a lie!
These ***kers are going straight to*****.
***kers
They call my work phone everyday
This is rediculous!
Same thing... got the call, rejected it, and they left a robo-message claiming to be the US Census Bureau, and to call them back at 866-208-6591 immediately. However, after reading all the prior comments, I'm a little perplexed. I received a form in the mail about a year ago, which I completed and sent back in. Either on the form or by subsequent phone call (I don't remember which), I was told a Census Bureau employee would come to my house each month for 6 months to ask basically the same questions each time, then they wouldn't come over for the next 6 months, then they would do it a***n for the 6 months after that. The person showed up with all the proper identification, and she had a form from which she asked me questions. The purpose, she said, was to help track unemployment figures, see who was "out of the job market" due to lack of progress, who had worked, how many hours per week, etc. It was legit, and she did come back for 6 months, then took off 6 months. She just s****ed back up with the monthly visits a few weeks ago, so I expect her a***n any day. On some of the more personal information she handed me a chart and asked which range I fell into, but she never asked for social security or credit numbers. What perplexes me now is, why would the Census Bureau at 240-420-6029 not know I was already parti****ting in a long term survey? I will not return the call, but I WILL ask the Bureau lady about this next time she comes to the door.
I get calls fro the same num etc... Got a survey in the snail mail many pages asking too too many questions... Big brother want to know too too much. If any of this is MANDANTORY or in violation of any federal laws then why would they not send mail "CERTIFIED" or similar? they can prove jack ****!and as far as I am concerned I will NEVER give of any personal information this can only come back and HAUNT YOU. Fill out now pay penalty later.... Sorry but Ill pass on this spectacular offer...*** is has our country come to these days? shee***
I think I will answer the next time they call and say they have the wrong number
the exact same as everyone else here. We are being harassed. I get calls from this (240) # and from (812) actually saying census bureau when they call. They call at night waking up my infant, the interrupt nap times, dinner times. I already filled out the f***ing survey and mailed it back. I'm not going to take a call. Anything they need to confirm, they can formally do in writing and leave me and my family the f*** alone.
Been getting phone calls from different numbers and people claiming to be from census bureau. Today is sunday and it's only 3:13...I've gotten 2 calls TODAY from this number! I called back once and told them to stop calling me...obviously didn't work. I refuse to answer the invasive survey...there's no reason they need to know the majority of the info requested on that community survey.
I answered their questions on the survey and mailed it in. Now they keep calling me and leaving me messages on my voice mail to call back. Which I haven't done because I already answered the questions on the survey. Some which I might add were really ******: Like what time do I leave for work. I mean seriously why do they need to know this?
what is the survey about?
I received a message from the US Census Bureau from this number. I called them back, gave them my "case number" and they asked if I was the lady of the house. After my affirmative reply, they proceeded to tell me that they had mailed me a survey and I hadn't returned it so they were going to do it by phone for the next 20 minutes or so. I stated that since we have a PO Box (no mail delivery in our town) I couldn't have received any mail from them. The man told me that the survey was mandatory and was called the American Community Survey. I explained that I needed to look into this and they would have to try later.I researched this survey - the questions on it ask for names and personal information on all parties living at your address. They request the number of cars that you own, the amount of your mortgage/housing as well as the amount of the monthly payment. They want to know my salary, my monthly and yearly utility bills and what time I leave my home for work - as well as when I return from work. They want to know how much I spend on homeowner's insurance and property taxes and when my home was built. They want to know the value of my home and when I moved into it.They want to know what type of medical insurance I have, if I was ever in the military and how many times I (and all others in my household) have been married.I find this highly invasive and will not complete this survey - especially not over the phone with an individual that barely speaks English or by mail when they don't even realize that the mail they have sent me has been returned. The form indicates a fine for non-compliance but additional research indicates that noone has ever been convicted for not completing the form. Harassed by census workers at their door, yes, convicted and fined, no.

well, after exstensive sear****g I called the the census number listed on the . gov website and verified the phone number calling me[2404206029] and the number they told me to call ;8888172153, Quess what? yup it's realy big brother calling. I say big brother because I don;t like the extent of the intrusion of the acs questions. I have not called back yet to see what they want. Hopefuly it is not the "american" [intrusive] comunity survey they want me to do. maybey it's just that I did't give full bith date. The admistration in charge of the U.S. is lincon, teddy rosevelt, or jefforson, but alas they are dead and gone. Now we got the nannys in power. S.O.S.
I think I just got scammed by a fake Census Bureau form. This number called me to ask questions about data I didn't fill in. Now I have a nightmare on my hands...
I received a call from 240-420-6029 on January 2, 2010. On our caller ID, it said Census Bureau so I thought it was legitimate so I answered all her questions for 20 minutes. Now I feel like I made a serious mistake because 15 days later when I applied for a Sears credit card, someone elses name came up when I gave my social security number. This other person lives in Minnesota and I live in Michigan.
They are from the Census, trying to harrass you into filling out that 30 page pile of horse****. After all the calls, they apparently s**** showing up at your door to try and intimidate you. Is this the Soviet Union or ****a? ***** them. Just ignore the calls, then ignore them when they come to your door.
Got a call from this number claiming to be the Census Bureau. (Phone display only read "Hagerstown, MD") The first time I answered and told the caller, "It's my understanding the Census Bureau only goes door-to-door." They said, "Well, we do phone surveys for consumer information." I said, "Thanks anyway, but I'll pass" and ***g up. They've been calling almost everyday since. I value my privacy and know of no law that says you have to answer your phone ... nor do I know of any law that says you have to call them back when they leave a message. So, I wish them the best of luck, w***ver they may be.
Not at home when called. Found on caller ID
Never underestimate the ****ods and of the persistent iden***y thief. And, that's a fact, Jack!"........and then there's shrimp kabob, shrimp creole, shrimp............."
I believe this number is legit. Because about a week ago I received multiple differenet calls from multiple different numbers claiming to be the US census Bureau. So unless someone is going to different states and faking this.
I give NO info over the phone. I give NO personal info to anybody unless I am under oath. Live with it.
I don't want to answer their invasive and personal questions. If they show up at my house wanting to know more than how many reside at my address, then they better bring a Federal Marshal and a subpoena signed by a Federal judge to take me away in handcuffs and leg shackles. I'm not going to answer their iden***y theft type of questions any other way. Sorry about that Chief. But, that's the way it goes in today's protect my iden***y plan. Better luck with your next prospective victim.
As of March '09 the US Census's Community Survey group is using this number to verify information on forms returned in response to the survey. If you do a Google search for US Census, and look under Community Survey FAQ's, there is a toll-free number to call in Maryland that will confirm that they are using 240-240-6029. But even better, they can just ask you the questions they need clarified and you're done...and since you have called them, you know it's them.
I got a phone call from this number, they didn't leave a message. I have read online that this person claims to be from the U.S. Census Bureau. I have had a lot of calls from people claiming to be from the U.S. Census Bureau but they turn out to be false. I got the phone call from this number around 5:17pm. I doubt this number is the actual U.S. Census Bureau...especially since they didn't bother leaving me a message.
so-called census bureau taped message, no live person. Other sites say not real census bureau.
Got a call from this nunber claiming to have sent information to us four times which I never received. Said they were the census bureau and wanted to do a survey. Said it would take about 30 minutes and there was a law that we were supposed to take the survey, I was busy and they said they would send copy of the law .
This is from the Census Bureau. I recieve a call from them once a month. They are doing special surveys, and this is a legitimate number. They just called, and I talked to the same person who calls every month. The special surveys are for a period of one year.
I received a call from 240-420-6029 claiming to be from the census bureau. She said she calling because I didn't respond to a mailing to my physical address. When I tried to explain that I didn't receive it cause the post office doesn't deliver to our physical addresses in my small town she ***g up on me. Don't believe she was from the Census Bureau.
