Leave a CommentThe phone rang twice. I was just fed up enough with spam calls I decided to answer it and tell them off in person rather than block them. However, when answering on the second ring, I got a dial tone. No I called back and got a saccharine voice telling me how they (Merit Research), were violating no laws by calling me, as a matter of fact, they were doing me a favor, because they were just going to ask me some questions, however, if I didn't want them to call me at all, I could call a different number to tell them not to call me at all. I chose to block them instead. Insisting sweetly you are breaking no laws is worse than the call in the first place.
Calls from 240 699 8907 s****ed on 11/13/14 at 8:12 P.M. and each day thereafter at different times of day or evening. Most annoying to get these unidentified calls. Since I don't recognize the number, I'll not answer. The Do Not Call List doesn't seem to stop these pests.
800 number works
To get off Merritt Research's list (which btw is a legitimate call list), call 800 864 8601, press 5 (to verify touch-tone phone) then enter your 10 digit phone number to be removed from their list. Don't enter a "1" or anything else before it.
I serviced my car a***n at 25000 miles a few days ago. They did not leave a message, but this caller was identified by others a contractor conducting a legitimate customer satisfaction survey. Not spam, a legitimate call for most of the posters. The "do not call list" does not apply when you deal with business you are their customer. Look at the written privacy agreements (that you may have signed or otherwise consented to) & see what opt-out options are available to you.
