SCAMMING ANY WAY THEY CAN. TUCOLA COUNTY, ARBELA TOWNSHIP On 01/21/2021, at approximately 7:20 pm, troopers from the Michigan State Police Caro Post were dispatched to a residence in Arbela Township for a phone scam complaint. Through their investigation, troopers determined the victim, a 67-year-old female had mailed approximately $76,500 dollars through various means to unknown subjects at an address in New York. Troopers learned the victim was contacted initially in December of 2020 and informed she had won billions of dollars and needed to pay various fees in order to obtain her winnings. The victim ultimately made several cash and electronic payments to the scammers after taking out loans and money from her life savings. With tax season approa****g, the Michigan State Police Caro Post would like to remind residents that phone scams/frauds are becoming more prevalent and are continually targeting elderly subjects throughout the state. Additionally, troopers are noting that scammers have been using increasingly aggressive techniques and new tactics to scam people out of their money which may include the following: promises for large lottery winnings, threats to harm other family members, offers for intimate relationships, and even claims family members have been arrested or jailed in another country. The Michigan State Police Caro Post would like to inform residents that legitimate law enforcement agencies would never solicit money over the phone. MSP also advises that gift card and wire transfer payment requests are always a sign of a scam. The Michigan State Police Caro Post would like to further educate the community of these types of scams that are occurring and remind the community not to provide or send any form of funds or personal information to subjects over the phone. If you believe you or a family member have been the victim of a phone or internet scam, you are urged to call 911 and report the incident to the appropriate law enforcement departments immediately.
This caller told me that she had a $5 million inheritance. And she needed a beneficiary. She said she could not put it in her daughters name, because her daughter is only 15 I believe she was trying to get information from me like Social Security number And sign some papers as a beneficiary I found that she was just scamming me because I told her I was in the hospital she said that I was causing her inconvenience and when I told her just send me the paperwork, And I will have my lawyer look at it, he told me I was trying to be too controlling and told me she would not make me the beneficiary I believe this was a scam from the s**** this is why I’m trying to find the information on this person to keep this from happening to any senior citizen out there that may fall into this trap thank God I didn’t
