called at 4/2/14 at 2:12 pm and did not leave a voicemail, didn't answer it as I knew the MI area code and knew that no one to my knowledge in MI has my cell #

going on this site confirms that it is indeed a scam and/or irrelevant as I had suspected for MI to call the southern most tip was rather odd...

this is a cell phone scam call. they tell you have won a free cruise and then ask for your credit card number to make purchases. I kept them on line for 15 minutes, playing with them, and then told them I wasn't interested. they got EXTREMELY angry. wasting their time is a very effective counter.

"This is not a sales call. There has been an increase in crime around your area..." ...FBI... Yes, it's a robo-call. Sometimes leaves a message, sometimes doesn't. I think it depends on whether it identifies your outgoing message as a "live" person. Not sure what the scam is, but I've received the same message on two different numbers in states over 1,000 miles apart, and neither is near the originator. So, as Rod said below -- not my neighborhood. Not sure what the scam is, but it's junk!

Apparently recorded statement announced it was not a sales call, but went on to declare there had been a rise in crime in my neighborhood. Since crime statistics for my neighborhood have been improving and the call source is in Michigan, hardly my neighborhood. I ***g up. The major crime was the phone call taking me away from my work.
