Leave a CommentThe message says call the number on the back of your card. If you have a CITI card you can check on-line.
I got that call too. The lady on the phone claimed that she was from Citibank and told me that my Citibank credit card was blocked. I felt su****ious and told her that I don't have time to talk and she said, "Call back when you have time." Then I was smart enough to login to my Citibank account online and checked my credit card status and it did show the message in red indicating: "Please call the customer service to avoid interruption on your credit card transaction." So, I did call them (other than the number on my caller ID) and I do recall that I have made the online transaction for Yahoo subscription. Actually, Citibank just wanted to verify to make sure that I did make that transaction online for our protection a***nst fraud. Thought I just wanted to share with you all one bit of advice. It is always wise to call or check online with YOUR bank if you're actually have any accounts with them and DO NOT call any other number who called you. That's right! It could be a SCAM but you never know.
This is NOT a legit number. The people saying here that it's really Citibank must be with the scammers -- it is indeed a scam number. I have received a number of calls where they left a message saying it's Citibank's fraud hotline or somesuch thing and to please call back. I have never opened a Citibank account in my life. Don't be fooled into imagining it must be legit just because some previous posters here insist that it is. It's clearly a criminal operation. A***n, I've received a number of messages claiming to be from Citibank fraud center at various times - not all within a couple days. I do not have a Citibank account, never have had one, and have never later received a callback apologizing for accidentally contacting me b/c I'd been called erroneously or anything of that nature. This is NOT actually from Citibank.
I got a call from Citibank fraud dep. .
citibank fraud department just got off talking to them.
This was the citibank fraud number, I was su****ious and didn't give my information to them. Then I called the number on the back of my card and they were able to verify that this was in fact a citibank number. If you are su****ious about any number then I wouldn't give away any information, you can always check it by calling a number that you know belongs to a the company they say they're calling from.
Definitely Citibank. They left a message. I accessed my account on line and saw fraudulent charges. I called the Customer Service number from a billing statement. I was transferred to the fraud department. Emailed an affidavit with a number of fraudulent charges.
Just got off the phone with them. This is a legitimate call. They called to state that my credit card number had been compromised in a recent merchant data breech & wanted to verify my home address before sending out a new card & closing the old account.I stated that they should have it on file, and she was able to verify the home address. At first I was skeptical given all the negative posts, but this does seem to be legitimate because they were able to not only verify the last few transations on the card but the home address. They had both my home & work phone number. They don't seem to be terribly in sync with the customer care department, but I suppose these calls are probably outsourced. I doubt it's a scam because I was never asked for my credit card number or any information that they didn't already have. They simply wanted to make sure the card would go to the right place along with a fraud affidavit and inform me that upon activating the new card, the old account would be closed for security purposes.
I called the 1-800 number on my card to verify that this was a legit number and it was the Citi fraud early detection. Would be nice if Citi had a place on their site to verify such numbers.
Yes, this is from Citibank Fraud Center.
This number is definitely Citibank. Citibank asked me to call this number via a secure message within the Citibank online area.
I don't know who they are. They did not leave a message.
For me, this was definitely Citibank's fraud protection line. I had earlier made a couple of overseas flight reservations, so because the charges were made via online AND were from out of the country, the fraud protection department was calling to verify that I had made those charges. They knew the exact amounts, etc. It was legit, and I appreciate the extra protection.
Someone called me from this number and left a message about fraud early warning. I called citibank directly and they have no record of them calling me. I would not trust this number. Just don't give them any info and call the number on the back of the card.
Seems to be a scam--I had no charges to verify. CitiBank could not confirm that this was a legit call.
This number is from Citibank. But don't take my word for it. Call the 800 number on the back of your card to verify. I received a call from this number today to advise that my card number was a**** a batch of numbers stolen from a merchant's database. Customer service advised that they were shutting down the account and re-issuing my card. A***n, this was NOT fraud, but don't take my word for it. Contact your credit card company using their 800 number.
I just got a call from the same number but after 2 automated "please hold" notices, it ***g up. Went online to see what the number was and people seemed to point to CitiBank. I called CitiBank using the # on the back of the card. They checked their records and they DID NOT call me. Be VERY CAREFUL
I believe it was legit. They were verifying that the items ordered were okay. I knew that it was ordered from me.
This is not a legit number. These are scammers looking for your card number. I suspect the above post is from the same people. Call the number on the back of your citi card or from their website. Don't call this number!
This number is run by scammers trying to get your credit card number. I suspect the post above are the same people. Call the number on the back of your Citi card, or on their website.
I too, got a call from 301-714-5301. I called the customer service number on the statement and they verified that they wanted to verify two transactions I had made.
Got a call and they said they were from FRAUD CITI and I told them I would call CITI Direct. They verified it was a ligit call. I was suspisious when the guy new all my recent charges and was asking questions and I was a bit rude to him. I feel kinda bad now that it was a Legit call.
This is citibank's credit card fraud hotline. They are calling to alert you to su****ious activity on your card.
