Leave a CommentYes, this is a scammer most likely based out of India. It is most likely a s****ed VoIP. I got a voicemail with an automated message to call this number. Figuring it was most likely a scam, I called back to mess with them. A man with a very thick Indian accent answered the phone with an unintelligible greeting followed by "How can I help you?" I put on my best southern accent, and explained I got an urgent message to call this number. He then asked my name and what number I was calling from. I played kind of ******, and he just asked if it was the number I was calling on. He then asked for my name a***n, but I told him that he called me so he would have to tell me his name first. He claimed to be "Officer Steve Bento." I repeated his name, and asked him what kind of officer he was and what his jurisdiction was. His grasp on the English language was tenuous at best, and he did not understand the word jurisdiction. I just kept repeatedly asking him what his jurisdiction was until he cursed at me and ***g up. Other searches for this number seem to show that it is the classic fake IRS scam, where they claim to have a warrant for your arrest for unpaid taxes, unless you give them $2k in iTunes cards, or The Gap gift certs, etc. The guy was pretty dumb.
Got a message about the IRS suing me. Checked on google and the number came back as scam. Be careful!
