Leave a CommentJust got a call from "American Business Quarterly" With the exact same rates that "Archytech" got on Green Business Quarterly. I think I could get a***** of an ad in the local newspaper for $9K. Probably reach more****ential customers too.
They are "real," in the sense that they exist, and the mag. probably actually gets printed. They claim to have a circ. of 60,000. But the scam is that they convince people (like my client) they are being honored, and will be featured in the magazine for their green business. Then they get a list of "people they do business with" and offer them the opportunity to advertise. The sales person on the phone very subtly implied that my connection to the client would not be mentioned in the article unless I bought an ad. Here is the e-mail I received with the ad rates:Thank you a***n for your time yes****ay! As I mentioned we are very excited to feature ______________ by putting together a lead story in our upcoming issue of Green Business Quarterly. One of our senior writers will be sitting down with ____________________ for an in-depth interview which will end up being the centerpiece of the feature. He will be providing us with insight into their operations and new initiatives planned for 2010. You have been invited to parti****te in the feature with them by way of an adverti*****t within the story and also an editorial sidebar which will allow you to go into detail about your company or the business relations you have with _______________________. These are the discounted rates we are offering to your company as an invitee in the feature:Double Page color ad: $9,210 150 words editorial Full-page color ad: $5,850 100 words editorial ½ page color ad: $3,940 75 words editorial ¼ page color ad: $2,750 50 words editorial All of these rates include the use of our design studios to aid you in the creation of your adverti*****t, as well as the editorial ****e available to all advertisers. All adverti*****ts rates are in US dollars.
Yes, it's a B2B publication, standard procedure for those in the trade publishing industry. Don't want to be featured...just say no. Very simple folks.
Vanity definetly if you think your are doing a sevice for those companies think a***n and those subs well they are just victims. I have been contacted by them and they pull evey cen out of company vendors for real press im not so sure
It ain't a scam, folks. Those magazines exist, and i know, b/c i work for BG+H, have several copies of their ***les w/ my byline -- &, their checks clear. So as a co., they are legit, and Ca***ian Builders Quarterly, Ca***ian Executives Quarterly, Green Business Quarterly -- they are real magazines. Pretty good ones, too. As far as it being 'vanity press', Tom - is there any kind of B2B that isn't?! You use it, tout it on your web site & whatnot. As far as an 'aggressive phone bank' i have no idea. BUT I should think annoying your contacts would be worth the biz it generates -- if used properly. If not, then ...
The layout might be fine, but the only ones who ever see these magazines are the companies that have projects featured in them. And the odd person like Blake who subscribes online. At best, this is vanity press. When you accept their offer and provide contacts, you are only setting up your project partners for calls from a very aggressive phone bank. And they will mention your company's name.
It looks like they are a publishing company of some sort and they publish a number of different magazine ***les. It took some digging but I found their main website. www.bgandh.comThey sure made it difficult to find but it seems as if they are a real company. The magazines look good though. I filled out the subscriber information for all of their ***les, guess we will see what happens.
Just called twice times in 5min.. I asked her if she realized she was calling the same company and she said bye.I was told they'd like to do an article for some Ca***ian Builders magazine.
I just received a phone call from this number and they wanted to do an "editorial" on our company for the American Builders Quarterly. She said that she will take our information to her editor and get back with me to do a detailed interview. She asked if we would give a list of our suppliers for the article to show the relationships we have with our vendors. I didn't give any information on our suppliers and I won't be giving any information after I read these previous comments. Thanks for the info.
I just received a call from this number- and I have no intention of allowing anyone to upload my database / client list.Very intelligent way to get a database s****ed though- give them ten for trying.
Us too...got a call from a 'Ronnie' from Ca***ian Executive Quarterly wanting to feature us in their upcoming issue. A scam...
Google them and check out their web page, it's blank
Thanks everyone! Same type of speil as T & SH reported. I put him on hold and talked with our CEO and he told me to tell them to mail us some info and when I did the guy slammed the phone down.
call asking whom would be best to talk for a story on our business.when i advised xfer to pr rep, he yelled "ooooookaaaaay!"it was very odd and unprofessional!he never did leave a msg with our pr rep, but we w8ill no longer take calls from this number.funny enough, he said his name was anthony (above comment)
I am pretty sure this is standard procedure for Business to Business trade publications.
Also got a call from this number with reference to Green Business Quarterly wanting to do a story on us. Caller left a different number than the one recorded in caller ID.
These people keep calling, but we have flagged the number and don't pick up when they call.
Just a got a call from the same number. I answered and the female voice said "yes, ummmmmm" and then ***g up.
Also got a call from this number who said he was an editor for Green Business Direct and would like to do a story on our company. I said I'd take a message and that's as far as it went.
Got a call from same number, it is an "editor" for Energy International Magazine. They claim to want to feature your comapny for free, but require you to give a list of your suppliers,e tc for them to solicit ad dollars to cover your review. My carefully considered thoughts: They're cheez *****....
This company keeps calling my company and ****ing up when we answer the phone. How do you fight this kind of thing.
