My mother in law, sister in law and aunt and I hired a pet sitter for our little trip Thursday-Sunday. Her name is Sharlene Herbertz and Sabine is under her and who is responsible for wat****g our dogs. Sharlene makes a small profit even if she doesn’t watch the dogs herself. They came recommended by the groomer. The arrangement was that Sabine would stay at the house with the 4 dogs and let them outside (fenced) yard to****ty and make sure they were fed, etc. my chorkie has a lot of separation anxiety and has attempted to run away to find me before when left so she has to be watched carefully especially being so small (4lbs) but she also isn’t used to a crate and we felt a kennel would be super ******* her. My mother in laws house would be more comfortable to her and with familiar family pets we thought it was better that way. Sa****ay rolls around , we are in Dayton Ohio, and I get a phone call around 10:30am from a kind stranger that my dog has been found in the middle of meridian street and that they have moved the body off the road. No call from Sabine. Our family was hysterical , I’m in shock and so my husband has my mother in law contact Sabine and when she answers the phone she says “we have a problem ... I can’t find Lina” to which my mother in law says “right.... bcuz she’s dead” she says she’d been looking for her and hadnt found her, and was hoping she would come back so that’s why she didn’t call. We thought it was a lapse of judgement but didn’t fault her, we were just so sad and we tried to process it. we all were grieving and we instruct Sabine to get the body and preserve her so we can deal with it Monday morning at my vet for cremation. The body was right in front of my mother in laws house ... how she missed seeing her I’m not sure. Today we found out thru the next door app, my dog was actually hit on Friday night, according to the timeline on the posts. So Sabine literally lost my dog a day after we left and never told us. Lina wa***** 45 min later once we got the truth and actual timeline of events from Sabine that she’d let the dogs out to the yard to****ty around dusk and Lina squeezed thru the fence to escape. So granted even if I had been notified I’d probably not been able to save her, i would have immediately posted an Indy lost pet alert and next door alert about her and had a lot of eyes sear****g, doubt it would have helped with how fast it happened, but it’s just the lack of communication that bothers me so much ! The fact that she was able to lay her head to rest that night knowing my little girl was out there and not safe ****s me! And knowing my little baby laid out their in the road all night until the next day!! Do not hire these people! Even more upsetting is after this was over, and we got home, I didn’t even go to my mother in laws house to pick up linas things, it was too sad. We went straight home. But we never got a card, or a phone-call from Sharlene or Sabine with condolences and neither did my mother in law!
