This is a phishing scam and is NOT from American Express. Check their phone numbers on their (American Express) website and the back of your AMEX credit card and you will see that it is different. The prerecorded message is always the same: "THIS IS AMERICAN EXPRESS CALLING ABOUT A VERY IMPORTANT BUSINESS MATTER, YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER IS URGENTLY NEEDED BY THE END OF THE DAY, PLEASE CALL US AT 1-800-678-0738, AND PLEASE HAVE YOUR AMERICAN EXPRESS ACCOUNT AVAILABLE WHEN YOU CALL, WE CAN BE REACHED 24 HOURS A DAY, THANK YOU."Some of the phone numbers he/they call(s) from are the following:(215) 873-3443(404) 697-3127(718) 564-3261(954) 308-5595(954) 503-1800These phone numbers seem to be from cell phones and there are many people reporting this scam on various consumer complaint websites. American Express has verified that it is NOT them. How do we know it's a scam?

I received a call to my work landline here at the Sprint Headquarters in Overland Park, KS and the caller ID was showing the 404-697-3127 number.  They left a message for another Sprint employee on my phone, claiming it was an urgent American Express issue and to call them back at 800-648-0738, which seems to be a scam as well.  Beware!

Got a call claiming it was American Express with a very important business matter. They wanted me to call back with my account number ready. Positive this is a scam since I don't even have an American Express card.Definitely do not call back!

This # has been calling me every day.   I finally answered it.    A guy came on the line.  I told him that if he ever called me a***n I'd personally kick his a**.  He said he'd take my number off the list and that it would take 24/48 hours to purge through the system.  I told him if he called back within 24 or 48 hours, I'd track him down and kick his a**.   I called him a scam.   He didn't deny it.  He finally ***g up.It made my day for sure!

I keep getting several calls a day from this number.

I recieevd a call from this number.She asked about my payment reminder.She told my name also.She told my other account payement dues and due dates.She aske me if I would like to set up a phone payment .I said no and I will talk to AMex directly since I cannt belive you (who is on the other line).She said yes yes thas fine.thieves are every  where prey ing on every body .Be care full.Iam happy to see this log.

I just got a call from them twice in a row. When I answered there was no one on the other end. Once I ***g up they called right back. The same thing happened. I called this number back but oddly it never rang and the call was connected but still no one on the other line. Thanks for everyone who posted info on this. It was very helpful.

I have received calls from this number the last two days.

The call showed on CID as "cellular call". Monica asked for a relative's name (how'd they get that info?) but didn't give any info.

I've gotten calls from this bunch for weeks, sometimes six times a day.  What I do now is to harass them as much as they harass me.  I call the number, pretend I'm totally taken in by them, and make up an AmEx number.  Last week I s****ed preemptive calls:  I call them 6 times a day and just chat about the weather or so****ing inane.  Other times I call and tell them I have to find my account number and put them on hold and walk away.  Another time I called someone there and read their script back to them and asked for their account number.

2/22Got this same call 15 min. ago. Caller ask for a name I did not know so I said "wrong number" and ***g up.

they are going after me too.  The scary part is...that AMEX calls me just as much because of a missed payment.  How did this person get my number and know that AMEX calls me too.

We got the same call and it was a girl looking for Henry !

Got a call from this number today.  Only a 7 second voicemail that was garbled.  Did anyone pick this up and talk before it went to VM?

Just had this experience this morning. Instead of a message from a man, it was a woman.  Called American Express. They never use cell phones(this number comes up as a cell phone from GA) Definintely a scam!!! I called Amex and they made a note on my account.  They are looking into this number.

404-697-3127: I've been getting this call a couple times a week for 3 weeks now on my unlisted, unpublished phone number w/ caller id. It's a guy saying he is from American Express with an urgent message & to call another number with your account info ready. WARNING TO ALL! THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM TRYING TO SCARE YOU TO CALL THEM AND GIVE YOUR AMEX CREDIT CARD NUMBER. Do not call back this number or any number this person tells you to call. Other numbers he uses even has American Express on the caller id. I checked w/ AMEX and it is not them. They never call customers saying to call them back w/ your credit card number ready. If there is any su****ious activity on your card & they catch it they will automatically put a hold on your card & wait for you to contact them. It is relatively easy now to disguise your id and say whatever you want it to say on the party your calling's caller id. Once a***n , this is NOT american express. It is a scam artist trying to hook you into giving them your AMEX account info. It looks like this cingular cell phone number is based in Atlanta, Georgia USA. (REPORT THIS PERSON TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFO TO THIS SCAMMER.)
