Leave a Commentjust recieved a call from countrywide periodicals and they did the exact same thing to me! they call me restricted several times a day then when i finally answer the give me the whole diamond watch and magazine subscriptions deal. said i was in the running for an early bird drawing for $5,000 cash and the grandprize of $100,000. she also said that i was a perferred customer with the publisher which i dont know how thats possible seeing as how i dont subscribe too any magazines at all. that in itself was fishy.the girl i talked to was named ashley and her boss so conveniently tapped her on her shoulder to talk to me about customer service! his name was Ryan Butcher I.D #RB406-220 i guess he gave me that to sound more legit. he was polite asking me about the weather and if i won the grandprize not to forget about him and he was laughing and *****ing jokes probably to make me more comfortable with the deal. i told him i wanted to check out the company before i gave him my visa card number (which he knew s****ed with a 4 ??) he gave me the s***ch about how its safe and they do it all the time he said so****ing about old people and talking to fast of so****ing and if i had any complaints they could fix it right over the phone but i refused to give my credit card number on the phone. he gave me the address and company name i searched it up and found SCAM with every post i read. Im glad i didnt give him my credit card number but they have my address :/
*** I was just reading this story above mine! I just recieved a phonecall about an hour ago from Readers Service. They also told me i had won a diamond watch and the woman was tapped on the shoulder by her manager and wanted to talk to me to make sure she was providing good customer service! Holy S**t! They were reading a script! That's crazy. I knew it was scam and i did not give them my credit card number. But they did have my address already.I googled the address they gave me, which is how i found this site. THIS IS A SCAM! Do NOT give them your info. They are soo pushy. The girl that called me was 'Samantha' and the manager that tapped her on her shoulder and then talked to me was Allen P Nuttall. I'm so glad i did not fall for this. I hope no on else does either.
Today I recieved a call from an 'Unavailable' number. I answered the call, and it was from this company, Countrywide Periodicals. The girl I spoke to was named Ashley. She told me I was going to recieve a diamond watch and free subscriptions to Cosmo and Vogue magazines for 48 months, all I had to do was subscribe to another magazine, which would cost $3.83 per month. It sounded good, so I gave her my address, etc. She told me her supervisor just tapped her on her shoulder and wanted to speak to me to ensure that Ashley was providing good customer service. She handed the phone over to him, and he said his name was Kevin James. He was telling me more about what I was going to recieve. He said I could cancel my subscription at any time, and that I actually wouldn't be charged for the first month. He then s****ed asking me for my credit card information. I was really hesitant to do this. I told him I didn't have it with me, and he asked, "What, are you afraid of giving your information over the phone?" I said that yes, I was indeed afraid to do that. He****ured me it was fine and that it would be secure. Before I gave him the card number, he somehow already knew what number it s****ed with. I asked how he got my information, and he said that the credit card companies sponsor it. Whatever that means. I was still unsure about this, and so I told him exactly that. He told me that I was going to be recieving a second call after I ***g up with him, and I wouldn't be charged until I confirmed the charge during the second call. I immediately googled the company name. Not long after, I recieved the second call. The girl said her name was Jackie, and s****ed telling me that customer service is everything and that they try really hard to provide good customer service and wanted to know if Kevin and Ashley were being friendly. I told her that I did not want to go through with the charge, and that I would like to cancel it. She immediately became extremely rude. She said, "I DONT UNDERSTAND, I THINK IM CONFUSED. WHY WOULD YOU SAY YOU WANT TO AND THEN WANT TO CANCEL IT? CAN YOU NOT AFFORD IT, IS IT TOO MUCH FOR YOU?" I told her that I just didn't trust the company, because I had been resear****g it online and found nothing but bad things said about the company. She then said, "WELL GOOGLE VERIZON AND DISH NETWORK, PEOPLE WILL SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT THEM TOO." I told her that it still would not c****e my mind, so please cancel. And she ***G UP ON ME. Before I could get a number to call or anything. She just ***g up on me. Great customer service, huh? So I got a number to call through a google search, and asked to speak with Kevin James. The gentleman who answered the call, Chris, said that ***ody by the name of Kevin James works there. I said, "Really? I just spoke to him. He's a supervisor." Chris then told me that there was a supervisor there named Justin. I said fine, let me speak to him. So I explained to Justin my situation. This guy was really nice, and totally on my side. He said he would reverse the charge and cancel it, and take care of the rude people I had talked to earlier. Then I asked about Kevin James giving me a fake name. He said there was a Kevin Donahue who works there, and that he would speak to him about that also. After reading online about everyone not being able to cancel their subscriptions and still being overcharged, I figured that I probably shouldn't trust that they even cancelled my subscription as they said they would. I called my bank to see if I could c****e my card/account numbers. They told me that I should file a claim, so I spoke to a claim representative with my bank. I explained the situation to her, and she asked me for Countrywide Periodical's number. She called them, and then told me she spoke to the supervisor, who this time said his name was Doug. She said that he would cancel everything and reverse the charges. She took notes and said that if I still get charged, just call my bank and let them know and I'll be able to dispute it. So we'll see what happens. DONT GIVE YOUR INFORMATION TO COUNTRYWIDE PERIODICALS!

it a servace you iddiots if you dont want it just say no see it ant that hard its a simmillar deal as a cell phone and if u cancel your phone early u still have to pay try thinking u iddiots
I got the call too, and was offered the same stuff about a year ago. They send you a paper you have to sign to get the watch, and if you read the entire paper it explains that you are signing to get the watch, and that you agree to the subscription terms, and payments. I never signed it and sent it in, but if you already give them your account number then it doesn't matter if you sign the paper or not you're locked in, and only have 3 days to cancel, but they don't tell you this. I have received all the magazines, but I didn't want it anymore because they took money out every month and I was fairly sure they said it would be taken out every three months. So I closed my bank account, and about 6 months later I get a letter from them saying I need to give them a current bank account so they can set up auto-payments a***n or pay them $547.91 to payoff my account and if I don't respond by 9/30/09 they will send it to an attorney's office for collections. I investigated them further and found they have an "F" grade by the Better Business Bureau, and have had a lawsuit a***nst them from the Federal Trade Commission. If you want to look it up try sear****g for Federal Trade Commission Vs. Your Magazine Provider, Inc. I don't know if I can get out of it, but I'm going to try. If you have big issues report them to the BBB. I think since the product that we order can't be given to us all at once then we should be able to cancel whenever the heck we want.
ugh they just called me like an hour ago ? what bu***hit first i was excited because i been entering sweepstakes after wat****g the tyra bank show thinking maybe ill get lucky. SO when i got the call i was like *** yes i won so****ing. i guess my excitement took over me and i was not thinking properly. i was excited about the watch and all the magazine. i was skeptic about giving them my credit card information but did it anyways. WOW they charged me right away a total of 49.51. when she called back to confirm i was iffy about it and they said they'll c****e it to 29 . so****ing and idk why i did not just say no. they were pretty nice and told me i could call them back anytime . too bad the numbers not working. i googled it really fast just to see if it was a SCAM, and what do i know , IT IS ! i am so mad right now so i called my credit card company put my card on hold and now their sending me a new one. and u know the sickest part i kept saying thank you to them after every prize they told me i would be getting. i want to tell them f u now ....
R received this phone call, saying i am entered in some sweepstakes, and a gift of a diamond watch.I told them i am not interested, still they insisted i order magazines.I refused to order, mean while they told me they already had all of my information,i call the number and no answer, the phone just keeps ringing.i check with my bank and there was 49.81 charged to my account.I call the bank to dispute the charges,my bank tells me all disputes have to be done in writing.name, date, amount etc.
close your bank account or ask for a new card. try to refuse the payment. then u gotta deal with them calling you everyday. so this is basically your stress releasor. just yell at them about your problems. =)
I was scammed by them, they supposedly sell magazines andsay you're entered in a sweepstakes to win money. I Neverreceieved the magazines nor was I ever sent the free giftthey promised for ordering. I keep getting my credit cardcharged every month and am now disputing it. Do Not Ordermagazines from this company.
