I said ****o 5 times with no results. I called local SS office and they said it was probably a scam call

Called me as a reminder for my phone interview appointment with them.

Nothing was said then hung up

Said they had sent me 2 forms one in 2020 and one in 2022. She wanted to go over the form on the phone I told her to mail me another. It made her mad when I said that.

Fake social security number

I received this call at 12:35 PM on a Saturday afternoon. The female caller stated s.he was from Social Security and that they had sent me 2 forms to fill out dating back to December 2022. I told her I never received them so she wanted to fill out the form over the phone. I told her fine. She never asked me for my birthday, SSN or any other personal information.

There was no answer.

I don’t know if this is Spam. I look it up. It says it’s Social Security. They called me three times in a row, left no message. I did not answer.

My phone flagged it as spam so I let it go to voicemail. She left a voicemail saying she needed to go over a disability checkup and gave this number to call her back on 410-594-2138. The call came from Baltimore, MD with the number 410-965-1234. On a Saturday morning. Do not give any information to anyone from these numbers. When in doubt, always call the SSN office during business hours.

Calling to verify information.

They called my husband wanted to know his SS number, said she needed to know when to start his check, also when my husband questioned her, she wanted to give him another number he could call and verify that she was legit!! We gave her nothing, and we are reporting her to SS !!! She used the name of my husband's social security worker!!!! SCAM

Scammer! Called my mom and asked for her birthdate. When she wouldn't give it, he got angry and that was her sign to get off the phone. Also, called her twice, once on a Saturday! Why the weekend? Scammer, folks!!

I could tell immediately something was off as it was a super generic and random number I had never seen before. social Security has always called me from a 1-800 number. Always. I gave them no information. She claimed she mailed something out to me to fill out. I knew that was a lie.

Claim to be Social Security Administration had my name had my daughter's name as my wife that was my 1st clue . When I challenged the fact that they had the roles reversed didn't say who the person was that they had claimed to be my daughter they said oh family member. I did not confirm anything to them and hung up

She wanted to talk about an application but didn't know my SSN. Very pushy - do not give her any info.

She wanted my info - didn't give - she got a little flustered about it and hung up on me.

He said he was from SS, I replied "bull****, you're a scammer" and suggested he get a job so he can do something productive in the world

They wanted my bank account information

The Caller ID said it was "The United States Government". I didn't pick up because it appeared fishy, especially given no VM has ever been left. But they have been calling me at least twice a day all week.

They sang. "Born to be wild" and hung up.

Guy said he was from Social Security and wanted to ask me a list of questions, but I didn't have time, so I hung up.

Missed call

They left a voicemail that said needed to go over social security application, but I didn't call back. Will check with SS and see what they say. Sounds sketchy!

Beware of people on these reporting websites, who are trying to convince you that this number is valid. They are most likely part of the scam, trying to make people feel comfortable about taking the calls seriously, and giving out personal information. They know that people look up unknown numbers to find out if they are scams. I call the SSA and they said it is a scam.

Pretending to be a social security attendant that works at the company

Lady stated she was from SS disability. Call was on a Sunday!!?? She stated to call back. Left a different phone number-410-594-2138. Called this number. At no time did a recording state it was SSA. Could not leave a message. Mailbox was full. Transferred to another number and the mailbox was full again. Just saying- I don't think Social Security would call on a Sunday.

They called and he asked if it was me I asked who was calling and they social security out of Maryland.I have always known and Social security always warns never give out info over the phone.They will send you a letter from your local office for any inquiries or set apt time through mail.Just hang up and report the number to your local gov or socialsecurity website

A black male stated he was from the Social Security Administration and an application was filed in August 2021, and he wanted to verify a few items. This is a scam, as statement is false!

They wanted to know if I have ever collected workers compensation and when, I told them they to contact my old job bcz I didn't know times or dates, he asked me for my employer's name and that's when I hung up.

It was Social Security office. I just became disabled and they were verifying information.

I believe that it is a scam because if they needed to verify information from you then they would do it by mail. They would also provide you with some information that they have about you as well. Due to the sensitivity of dealing with people’s personal information I would think that the SSA would have sense enough to take the extra measures to make people comfortable about providing it if needed. I hope the perpetrators get caught.

That number keeps calling me repeatedly and I haven't answered it. I just looked it up because it shows up as U.S. Govt Dept and I was wondering why on earth they would be calling me..

I've had 1 message and a number of calls with no message. The one message was from a woman whose name was common (like Anna Smith below), and when I called the number she gave it was a recordin with her vouice saying leave my SS# and date of birth etc. YA RIGHT LIKE I'M GOING TO DO THAT.Some of the posts here say I'm a G man etc and that the call is legit. HOW DO WE KNOW THE PERSON POSTING POSITIVE COMMENTS IS LEGIT? Do your own work and find out for yourself. Personally I would not give out any info over phone unless I AM SURE I know what agency I'm dealing with. With technology it's easy to spoof an official name for caller ID. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!

This in indeed the generic number for the Social Security Administration. A friend of mine works there and has called me several times where this number shows up on the caller ID. Her personal extension does not show up for security reasons. This is a government agency and NOT SPAM!

Hi, I'm the Fed Man and I try to confirm certain federal government related calls on this site since, like the rest of you, I hate scams and the friendly collectors who initially speak to you as if you grew up together and then turn into total idiots.Anyway, this is a generic number for the SSA-Disabilty section in Woodlawn MD. They do a lot of verification work and also work on Saturdays. I spoke with an employee there, initials RK, and he stated that the amount of people that they call is staggering, and the amount of people who think they're being scammed is too high. Scary, to live in a day and age when no one is to be trusted. So take the call, collect your benefits and fix any improper info because it will take forever to get your payments reprocessed.This was the Fed Man and it's been verified.

Received this call. The caller was a white American male who stated he was from SSA and that he was calling to confirm my mailing address and to make sure my checking account was still active. I received a 'Fully Favorable' decision from my disability hearing less than a week ago so I was expecting to hear from them. Wasn't sure if it would be by phone or mail. He confirmed my information by telling me my address which I confirmed, and then asked if my checking account was still open. I've switched banks since applying for disability and called SSA a couple of days later to update my checking account information. He was able to confirm which bank was on file. He did not read out the numbers nor ask me to provide any personal information. Caller ID shows "US Gov Dept"

Just received a missed call on my cell phone from this number. After reading the posts on this site, I'm not calling them back!

SSA office in Baltimore Maryland.  Called and left a message confirming they received my fax and informed me that I could now access their online business services. Caller left their name and the following phone number 800-772-6270.

I just received a call from this number but they immediately hung up once I answered.  Is this scam still going on?

We just got a call from someone who said they were with the Social Security Administration.  My wife and I got on the telephone about the same time.  The woman had a accent and wanted to talk with one of us -- I guess.  When I said "what" twice, she hung up.  We got the number (410-965-1234)from the caller ID.  From the above posts, this may be a scam call.  Be careful if you get a call from this number.  I talked to a SS represenative and was told that SS would never ask for your SS number or parts of it.

A female called on Saturday, November 7th, 2009 at 11:37am stating she wanted to speak to my roommate(she provided the name).  I asked who was calling and she said she was calling from the SSA-social security administration office.  I said, what is your phone number so I may have them call you back. Again, she said what. I said provide me with you phone number so I may call you back to be sure your calling from the SSA office on a Saturday. I said, your not calling from the SSA office as they are closed on Saturday's and only open during the week.   She then said, I will call back another time. Hung up.  I decided to take the phone number (1-410-965-1234)and call it.  I got a recording machine stating that it was the SSA office. Personally, I believe that this phone could very well belong to the SSA office; however, THE PERSON who called has programmed this recording for their own SCAMMING practices and for their own glory, could very well be trying to use this recording to have people believe that their call is real as a way of getting innocent people provide personal information by phone.  NEVER, EVER give any personal information by telephone.  If it was the SSA office calling asking for your SS#, that would be unlikely that it would be coming from their office because this information would already have been on file.  So why would they be asking this information from you.  THINK WISELY!When in doubt, NEVER give any information out, insist in getting the caller's name, phone number and address of the branch they claim their calling. If its real, they will give you this information where you can call them back directly.DON'T FALL FOR ANY OF THESE TYPES OF PHONE CALLS. Lastly, reported to your local SSA office and to the police department investigations/fraud's division.BE WISE, BE CAUTIOUS!

this number is to Social Security Disabilitythey called ONCE and didnt leave a message...my husband has been on SS for over 10yrs and they have never called and now they do?  I called today and of course they are closed for observance of the 4 july...UGH!!!you know its the GOVT so you never know if you gotta worry about something or not, especialy in this economy...they ;ist a bunch of numbers when you call the num,ber so have a pem and paper ready...

This number is the 'generic' number for the Social Security Administration HQ in Woodlawn, MD.  They use a generic number outside the agency so when you receive a call, you don't know the person's actual extension number.  You have to know the person's full name to get in contact with them.  Then, what happens around 8pm is a 'War Dialer' then calls all SSA numbers (which MIGHT be why someone got a call at this time) and tried to find intruders on the line.  It's a government agency that is calling you.  Take it with stride, even though it's ANNOYING! :-)

I got a call on my cell phone around 8am on 6/3/09 and they person would not answer when I said hello.  As I repeated "Hello" they finally hung up.

I keep getting calls from this number asking me to fax them W-2's for 2006 and 2007.  Their first mistake was calling on Saturday! LOL!  Seriously?  I suspect caller ID spoofing.

Peerson or persons uknown keep call us at all hours of the day and night we would like this to stop asap.....it's not funny.

The number came up as the IRS and They asked for information about my gross wages for the year and asked if my wife aplied for extra help paying for perscriptions
