It seems to be a marketing ploy to get you to call them back and listen to their message. People are probably more likely to listen to a recorded message from a missed call than from a regular call. For instance I probably would have just ***g up if it wasn't a missed call.

Just got a call from this # on my cell.  2 rings and they ***g up.  I notice all this activity seems to have just s****ed recently, must be a new scam operation or whatever.  Hope they die out quickly.

Rang one time, then ***g up.  Hard for them to sell you so****ing unless they're relying on the **** people that call back every single missed call regardless of if they know you or not.  Very annoying.

You are on auto dialers. They call and realize they aren't supposed to because your on the do not call list!
