Leave a CommentI received a call from this same number from a woman claiming to work for the State of Michigan. She also gave me a reference number and a toll-free number to call...it was (866) 218-7374. I looked that up and found it was for GC Services. She had claimed to be from the Collections Division for the Dept. of Treasury. I have recently sent correspondence to the Dept., so I'm wondering how these people know that? And it is true, government agencies are not open on weekends and as late as 9 p.m....this caller said they were available that late.I know that the State will send me paperwork via the Postal Service if I need to sign any do***ents or agree to anything. I refuse to ever give out personal information to anyone who calls me. That's one way that iden***y theft happens.
First a women called my work cell phone who claimed she was from the State of Michigan tax collections division and asked me to verify some personal information, ie:address, last 4 digits of ss #. Then put me on hold to wait for a supervisor/adjuster to speak with. He comes on and says I owe taxes from 1997 and wants to know how I would like to pay them. He did have some information that I thought not just anyone would know but it just didn't feel right. I told him to send me a letter with all the details and I would reply after I recieved it. He said OK and he would get it out with the payment arraingments and I would have 15 days to dispute it or they would place a levy on my property or wages. Knew where I worked also. I asked his name and he said Mr.Pope.When I called the number back after 1/2 an hour he answered it,"State of Michigan, Mr. Lester speaking" I am filing a police report shortly.

Caller called for a friend who works for the State of Michigan, so I was shocked to hear someone else calling from the "State of Michigan" asking for him. I jotted down the number and Mr. Harts refrence file #, and said good-bye. After calling my friend, he looked through this directory and said no such number exists for the State of Michigan. He apparently googled the number and said it's showing GC Services...which is a collection agency. It boggles my mind that a company is contacting me, on MY phone, misrepresenting themselves as a state employee calling on a personal matter. Well bud, you're calling my phone and you've been caught. My friend is calling the State Attorney General.
I never get a message or any correspondence by mail. I suspect this is about a defaulted student loan, but cannot get them to respond to anything I send by mail, and can never get information about my resolution process when I call.
A woman called stating she was from the state of Michigan collection department & asked for my married name (7 years divorced now) & then named my company and wanted to verify my address that they sent information to my address - I said I'm up to date on my taxes - she asked for my tax id for my company (so****ing told me not to give it to her)I did give her my address though - and I asked her to verify who she was she told me to look up state of michigan.gov on the internet (told me to go under collections)- I did while she was on the phone - I said I don't see your name here or anything - I'm not giving you my tax id you can send the information in the mail. It was just a very strange phone call. I called back the number and a man answered state of michigan collections department - she said she was Mrs. so****ing when she called etc. I thought for sure it was a scam.
"Miss Monroe calling on behalf of the State of Michigan" - misrepresentation from a collection agency.
