Leave a CommentI hear with these types of offers the scam comes at the end. You are obligated to pay for an annual membership, but the $8 monthly fee is only good for Nine months, not the full 12, and there is no option for cancelling early.
this isn't a scam, for those who are looking into it. i didn't get called by this number i got called by another one, i actually went to the fitness center in marysville, met with the personal trainer, and signed up. it's cheap, and a steal, and you get everything they say you do. i even made sure i read the contract before i signed and payed, and no scam. so these people didn't know what a good deal was to at least go check it out.
I received the call from a 616 number, not a 586 - but it was the same message. I was actually thinking of swit****g to Viking Fitness for the summer anyway so I let the guy talk and gave him my name - I figure I was going to pay full price to go there, so why not get a discounted price if I could? I was told $3.84 a week, as a maintenance fee - so about $16 a month to use their facilities. I already pay about $30 a month, which was the best rate I could find in the area. I was also told to go to the Marysville location to meet with someone. So, is this really a scam? Or are they just misleading with how low the discounted price is?
I have no idea who this is.
wow, i have heard of SO many people getting the call. A few of my friends joined and feel scamed and pushed into it. I checked out anytime fitness, the ymca and cutting edge health & fitness, thes facilities were much cleaner and NO scams.
I got a call from 586-803-8272 and it was the same thing, only 'Kim' told me it was Powerhouse in Rochester. It was the $8.00 monthly fee and my name was pulled out of a drawing. Which I can tell you I never entered a drawing. I will say that she was surprised when I said I already had a gym membership. She didn't even argue - she just ***g up!!
I got a call from 1-586-803-8272 and a call back (after an issue) from 1-586-803-8261. Same scam, different verbage. They now say it's an $8 maintenance fee. I even got a rude voicemail from one stating the next time they need my services they know not to call. I called back to clear up the issue and they said they don't have time to handle customer issues. Sounded like a bunch of teenage girls playing on the phone. WOW! what a way to build a business :(
I just received a call today from a different 586#. When I called, they also said they were calling from Viking Fitness in Marysville and they were using the 586 number. I told them I never applied and I don't know any friends who would use my cell. I then called Marysville Viking fitness directly and I swear it was the same 2 people who I just talked to (one was indeed named Kevin).
I also got this call today from a girl who supposedly worked at this fitness center. Why would the call be coming from Utica, MI? I'm less than a mile from Maryville and about the same distance to both Port Huron and Marysville fitness centers and I find it strange that the call comes from UTICA. She said the same thing: I won some 2 year free membership (for 2 people) through some unknown raffle/referral program and all they got is my number. They said I had to pay $8 to cover "Maintenance" and come in to see someone named Kevin.I don't think I'll be coming in to meet Kevin.
Got a call from 586-566-5972. The girl identified herself as Heather and said I had been one of 25 people who had won a free 2 year membership to Viking Fitness in a refer a friend sweepstakes. She said to come to the gym on Monday and see Kevin the manager to claim my prize. She said that by law they could not cover the $8 per month charge for insurance in case I got hurt on the equipment. The sad thing is, our son has been a member and after this sham, he will be quitting. There has to be better ways for Viking Fitness to promote memberships.
I too was called by this number two times in one month being offered a free gym membership and when i turned them down they were very rude and tried to get me to come in... they said they were from world gym though, not vikings fitness
i went there and its a scam! BEWARE!!!! Its Vikings Fitness in Marysville. They were also very pushy to get me to sign up and give them money. I didnt do it.
This number called me, 586-566-7086 and another number, 586-566-5972,called my husband on the same day. We both had the same type of experience, the person doing the calling didn't know our names, and told us we won a free 2 year membership to a gym for 2 people. The name of the gym escapes me at the moment. We were both told that the only cost we would have to pay is $8 per month per person for insurance purposes. He said he needed to talk to me about it and I said I needed to talk to him and we got 2 different numbers to call back. We discussed it and decided to do it. When we went to call back both numbers just rang...no answer, no voicemail, no nothing! What is the deal?
