The telephone company said it's probably a telemarketer and they can use any number they want. Maybe they get credit for every phone number they dial and want credit for your pick up. This is the 20th call they made. With all these complaints over the years, why hasn't the telephone company investigated?

Yes, I just received a telephone call from 609-784-8026 which makes a total of about 20 in the past few months. I telephoned that number immediately and received a message that it is no longer in service.

I just received a call from this number. I answered the phone, no one spoke, and I just ***g up. When I tried calling back, I got a message stating that the number is no longer in service.
