I received a call from Mike Stern at that number but he won't identify what collection agency he is with, if he is even with one. He is also acting out of the scope of the collections laws. If this is happening to you, you do have some options. You can report any collector who is harrassing you with phone calls or calling during times or days when you have asked them IN WRITING not to call by going to the Federal Trade Commission and lodging a complaint. First however, get the person's name, the company's name and address and then write a letter either telling them when they can reasonably call you or that you do not wish them to call you at all and send it certified, return receipt. After they have received the letter they may only call you to let you know that they received your letter or that they will be taking further action but that is all they can tell you. They cannot threaten you, garnish your wages, put you in jail or continue to call you. If they continue to call when you have either requested that they not during certain times or not at all then you can legally report them for failing to follow the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
