Fraudulent call. Man with a very strong African accent claims to be calling from "Microsoft Windows" in "Ontario", and that it's a courtesy call to fix my computer.
I recieved 2 calls. The 1st a man was either asking for or saying his name was John. The connection wasn't clear. The 2nd call occurred 2 hours later. Between background noise and the thick Indian accent, he was hard to understand. I ascertained that he claimed to be calling from Microsoft about an error message from my computer. I asked which computer, and he asked how many I had. He kept asking me to turn on my computer. I told him I had no error messages, and Windows Defender was working fine. I kept asking what was the point of his calling, and he wouldn't say anything more than my computer had a problem. I don't recall who disconnected. I ran the # through #cop, and there are 9 other complaints. I doubt Microsoft has a call center in Ca***a, and I think he tried to claim he was calling from California.
WINDOWS TECHNICAL SUPPORT SCAM! always from a different phone number. show you files they say are bad when they are all Windows running processes. Then convince you to let them have access to your computer. Then they hijack it and want to charge you. I lead them on and waste their time and then **** up. Had one friend who took the bait. I've had to buy them a new tower to replace the one that was hijacked. When they wouldn't pay, the a******s kept calling them back and got nasty. My friends reported it to local Sheriff but, there is not much they can do! I've been working with computers since 1982. This is the 20th call we've gotten in the last two years at least and the have a local phone number list and just go down the list until they find an uninformed person. Microsoft would NEVER make this kind of call.
