They claim to be a company called Nationwide Credit. They say to return the call to 877-379-4711. I called back the 678# after they called me 11 times in two days. They say they are debt collectors for American Express. They asked for information regarding my ss#, credit card number and other personal information to verify who they were talking to. I said if they were a valid company, then they would know that information. Don't give any personal information to someone who calls you regarding debt. If you owe debt to American Express or any other credit card company and can't pay the bill, you need to write cease and desist letters to the credit card companies and tell them to only contact you via mail. This is the only way to get the credit card companies to stop calling you. At some point they will sell your debt to a collection agency. Unfortunately, there are more fraudulent debt collectors than valid ones. This one offered for me to pay off my debt at 1% interest. However, after calling American Express, they said they had not sold my debt yet and offered to put me in their hardship program. Only problem with the hardship program (for all credit cards) is that you have to have a regular source of income in order to be accepted into them. As for Nationwide Credit I told them to not call me and only communite in writing - we'll see what happens.
