Leave a Commentthe person left a voice mail and said that he was from the social security office and needed to talk to me.. I just applied for ss benefits and i am not sure if this is real.
Confirmed with real social security agent that this is absolutely a scam. Social security always sends a letter
Wife recently applied for SS. Asked wife for personal info to verify identity, then gave a dubious fax# to fax medicare forms to, and a voice callback number. Voice #turned out to be fake, a company selling something.
Confirming SSA application. I checked with the national SSA number & local office & the number is legitimate. This is NOT a scam number.

Female stated that they wanted to discuss my recent application. (I submitted retirement application within the last week) Asked if now was a good time. Yes. Asked for the last 4 of my SS and my birth date. I declined to give it and stated I wasn't comfortable with the call. I was told to call the SSA's 1-800 number and I could call her back.
Sounds fishy I googled the number had a cop friend run it to a ms chin in New York obviously social security doesn’t have workers use there own number
Scammer! Do not fall for it! Stated she was calling for me from SSA. I know SSA does not call u unless u have a phone appt. Told her SSA does not call people, and hung up.

She was calling to get more information about my overpayment case. I was skeptical at first but she erased a $24,000 overpayment and began my monthly payments again because of an error that's social security disability had made. She is 100% legitimate and any calls coming out of that number IS social security. I have done a lot of investigating on it and it is the real thing
I have an application in process. She left a voicemail asking me to call her back. I called the local SSA office and discovered that the call was legitimate.
Constantly calling to sell Medicare Plans
It’s my daughter
A female har***ed me about private information. She was very offensive and I knew immediately that she was impersonating a government employee. Her voice was very unprofessional and actually very creepy.
Left an unintelligible garbled and short voice mail then disconnected. Appears to be Social Security related.
Hi this is Leah calling from Social Security administration in Jamaica New York this voicemail is for…: I'm calling in regards to your retirement application that you filed online please give us a call back at 866-226-2306 at extension 37001 N. discuss about your application.
Asked to please call back about recent social security application.
Angeline left vm to call 866.226.2306 about my claim. I did claim recently. Is this safe?
Wanted sensitive personal info.
Social security
Announced she was Social Security. Very thick accent and very bad attitude. I questioned her and she became angry. She insisted I had to answer her questions. Since I voiced my suspicion, she was trying to give me another number to call. NO WAY! Hung up on her. What scared me is she knew I had just been on SS website recently, knew the date and time. How is that possible?
Multiple calls from this number. I called Social Security and they said they were not trying to reach me and that my application was being processed.
Not a real #
Gave a number to call 866-266-2306 and we called and left a message. When he called us back we had this number as where he was calling from. We checked with local SS office. They advise that they NEVER call you they send letters to you. Glad we checked into it! And we know never to give our SSN or birthdate over the phone.
Claim I filed when I didn’t file no claim with them
Not sure if it was a scam or not. She knew my SS application date accurately but was asking for personal information I did not want to give on the phone beyond my birthday. She did give me the correct number to call for more information
Asking for my social security card
They hang up after I ask who they were.
spammer do not call
REceived phone call from above number and it stated US Gov't Post Office. I questioned the legality of the number. SHe gave me another number to call back on and the office code . I called my local SS office to verify and she verified both the number and the office code as legit.
They asked to call back at 1-866-226-2306 about social security. Thank goodness I checked it - and found this site.
SSA fraud.
Called from the 718 number and left a 1-866-226-2306 number. Unfortunately we fell for it and called back. They took a lot of personal info (ssn, date of birth and name). They asked if we have a bank account that we want to receive y at, we said NO. then told us how much benifit we will receive and that we will be mailed a card to use.
Asked me to verify personal information
This number called me back to back, I had recently sent in paperwork for SS however I was under the impression that they would never call you. The guy who called played both times acted like he couldn't hear me which was probably fine. I don't provide any information over the phone.
Must return call regarding Social Security
Wanted to know about my ss which social security will never call u
He said in a voicemail that I had only given them ten years of my work history and they require 15 years and this call was made on a Sat at 4pm. I called the SSA office and was advised that the SSA office isn't calling anyone they only contact you via mail and that this was a scam for sure. BEWARE!
Nothing they just kept calling I don’t answer
Call us back at 866-226-2306 Monday Through Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. I did, and it was legitimate.
They left a voice message with a different number, 866-226-2206. I pressed 0 to advance to the next question, after AT&T, car insurance and pest control automated questions, I hung up and came here. They are preying on those of us who are already stressed out about this whole filing process. Should be illegal!
Claimed to be US GOVT
They wanted me to phone 866-226-2306 regarding my application for Social security benefits. I am concerned as I did file an online application however they phoned on a Saturday and I don't believe SSA is open Sat.
Said to call back regarding my online application to ss. The number to call asked me if I wanted a $100 Walmart Gift Card. Press 1. I didn't so the female voice kept prompting me to press 1. I hung up.
Scam claiming to be social security agency
I called Social Security and they confirmed everything the man had told me.
I received a call from this number last Saturday afternoon, since it was not on my contact list, I didn't answer. They left a voice mail, this was a legitimate call from Social Security, I had just signed up for my benefit and they had questions. I did call the number the caller left, not a scam call at all.
Called and left a message to call social security. How do these people know who is on social security they must have a leak at social security or there system has been breached which they will not tell anyone. I called social security and they advised they do everything by mail they do not call you.
They called and left message to call them back. I didn't answer. It was from new York. I'm in Washington state 718 795 2089
I did not answer but they left a message that did not sound legitimate. Should not be calling me from new York I'm in Alabama
Got a call from 718 557 3000 stating they were with SS. they wanted me to verify my ss #. I said you have that in front of you and I will give you the last 4 digits of SS#. No they wanted the full SS#. When I said what address do you have down for me they couldn't answer the question because they couldn't give out that info. I said I was reporting this number and the scam. They hung up.
Don’t answer
I got a call they said they were Ssi .they asked regular questions like last Dr.s appointment, can you work, last time hospitalized and are you better? Sounded legitimate.
Rcvd. call today from this number and person did not leave msg. Last wk. rcvd. call from someone claiming to be an officer at the IRS and the wk. before recvd. message from someone with an accent stating he was with the IRS and it sounded like an overseas phone call. Very strange! I think I will report to the IRS and US Govt.
I am disabled, and this number kepp calling me to.send moneys and my home title to them,so they can help me get moneys.the number shows as U.S.Gov.they were soo nice.but I am alone and when I ask to give me there manager name they put down W.Oli
Woman represented herself as being from SSA and processing my Medicare application. I happen to have one in process and provided some personal info. I normally would not. I have since lit up SSA, Credit Bureaus, banks, credit cards and law enforcement agencies with the information. I agree with an earlier observation that someone at SSA is leaking info. or the SSA data has been breached.
just got call said SSA. Jamaica plains NY. if a scam its been going at least 4 years. they are sending letter.
My client says he received a call from this number identifying themselves as Social Security and asking to confirm his bank account number. Ironically, he has been waiting for a decision on his appeal to Social Security and they told him he would be receiving a letter shortly.
The next time that # calls you, you should answer !!! I was owed ALLOT of money from my fathers SS benefits, almost 10 years worth. I received a very large check yesterday and I gotta tell you, I am very glad that I did answer that call......
I received a letter from SSI a few weeks ago asking me to update my name, address and telephone # so they can contact me regarding owed benefits to me from my fathers disability benefits he received almost 20 years ago. I did fill it out and mailed it back. Today I received a missed phone call from 7185573000. I tried to call it back but it was always busy. I Googled the # and found this website and found another # to reach Ms. Parker. I called her and she did verify that the # that called me earlier was to verify the information that I filled out and mailed back to SSI. As per SSI, I am going to be receiving a check. If I receive that check I will follow up on this post in case this isn't a scam. p.s. All I had to do was verify my name, address, # and social security # in order for the woman to tell me I was receiving a check. I didn't have a problem giving her that information by phone because my information was printed on the letter I received weeks ago. If it was a scam, I'm sure they wouldn't follow up upon receiving my response to the letter......but we'll see what happens.....
Please stop these people. The number showed on my caller ID as US Government. I answered and may have confirmed info regarding a deceased person. I called the local FBI office and they were totally disinterested in my concern.
I received a call from 718-557-3000, today, at about 5:15 PM. A woman (no name given) stated that she is from "Social Security" and is in receipt of my "Extra Help With Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Costs, you know, part D" application. And, furthermore, "... it is incomplete..." and would I mind if she helped me complete it over the phone. Immediately, my brain went into anti-phishing mode. Ah-ha, me thinks . . . Social Security Admin; unsolicited phone call; Jamaica, New York; wants to ask me some questions. Mmm, probably, she wants to phish for my social security number, date of birth, and so forth; all the darn info that is on my completed, electronic application. Now, she probably doesn't suspect that most of us, who have worked for Uncle Sam or have done business with the US Government, know that noncritical, daily business is done between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:30 PM. DUMMY! Not announcing her name and the office, branch, etc. she represents is a huge mistake, per government office protocol. Anyhow, cutting to the chase, she did try to social engineer me.Some of her questions and my answers follow. She asked, "Are you on Supplemental Security Income?" I answered, "no." "What is your date of birth?" I said, "read it off the form and I'll tell you if it is correct." She said she understood my concern for security and read off the date. I said "right." She should never have let me do that to her and security demands that she should have never read of the birth date to who-the-hell-knows, on the of other end of the phone line. The dead giveaway was when she asked for my wife's social security number. "Now," I thought, "no, no, no, no, I got you, for good, now." I gently answered with, "a, can you send me some sort of paperwork to check out and send back to you." She answered with a definitive "no." At this point, she closed our conversation with, I'll send you a letter directing you to visit your local Social Security office, for help.I'm not sure if this woman was on to me, but I was on to her. From my point of perception, this was a phishing scam, and a poor one at that. However, unsuspecting folks will fall for it.
no message and when I tried to dial it, I got a message saying no such number existed. very suspicious.
It is a BOGUS number!! Don't fall for it. A scam, give NO information over the phone. Call your local SSA and make an inquiry. Do NOT use this number to call back or contact.
Just rec'd a call from this #,claiming needed ss# to read a letter for a disabled. The letter was supposible sent out on 12/09 concerning a lawsuit, never heard of lawsuit.BE CAREFUL!!!said name was M Kelly, and phone # is 718-557-3134A
It's a legit number for the Social Security office in Jamaica, Queens. I got a call with no message left, and it was from my child's daycare located in that building. It's a call-out number for the building.
I have received several calls from 718 557-3000 but the caller hangs up before I can get to the phone. No messages were left by any of them. I filed for SSA benefits just before the calls happened. It appears to be a scam alright and appears that our SSA information has been compromised with the banking information that was collected by SSA website. FBI should be contacted as well as the Inspector General for SSA if there is one. I'll investigate and report it.
I was called at 6:15 A.M. on a Saturday morning, from a woman claiming to be from S.S.,implying there was some money leftover in SS after my mother's death and she needed my SS#. To me this smelled of a scam, what government employee would call you at 6:00 on a Sat.morning? All state and federal offices are closed on the weekends to my knowledge.
This probably is a legitimate trunk line srvicing multiple offices for the Social Security Admin (SSAN) in greater NYC/Jamaica, NY. I received four calls before someone left a first name and different (866 area) number to return a call-back. 718 is an area code assigned to NYC, NY. Jamaica is a large town in the bourrough of Queens, on Long Island. I made a series of calls, never was able to determine the veracity of the caller, but found that by calling the Social Security Admin's national 800 number, I could correct/complete/verify etc any of their needs without responding to the original caller's phone number. I recommend anyone receiving calls from this 718/866 combo call or visit SSAN. If you call, use their 800 number. They should be able to help/verify/complete claims, etc.
More information concerning above discussion:I did a trace on (718) 557-4692 and (718)557-3114They are land line numbers for the someone calling from South Richmond Hill, NY
My husband has been receiving numerous calls from this number several times per day, at first leaving no msg on voice mail. Then, Friday, March 6, a woman left a msg stating she had a substancial sum of money to deposit from Social Security and needed my husbands' bank account number so the deposit could be made.Today, March 9, another woman who identified herself as Dorothy Parker, or Packer left a similar msg and two phone numbers we were to use to call back. Both are numbers from New York. (718) 557-4692 and (718)557-3114. The caller ID number was (718) 577-3000. That number does not answer. The (718) 557-4692 number was picked up on the 2nd ring, by the person above. She said,"Social Security Administration, this is Dorothy Parker (Packer?)"I hung up.Very suspicious, I went to the New York Social Security website to try to find offices with these phone numbers. Of course all the numerous phone numbers provided by Social Security are TOLL FREE. We live in Oregon.Meanwhile, my husband at work was calling the toll free number for SSA and they could not find any information about the claim currently in process other than it has not been finalized. And they were puzzled by the phone contacts we have been receiving.I am contacting the FBI, very serious scam going on...Advise anyone receiving this type of call to report it immediately, and above all do not reveal any personal information.
Man had heavy italian accent and insisted that I got a check for $731.00 for my daughter who was in a nursing home. I have no idea what he was talking about. My daughter is in a head trauma program and lives independently and not in a nursing home.
I completed my SS application on line yesterday and had a call from this # this morning asking for much more info . I REFUSED THEM INFO BUT THEY HAD ALL THE INFO i PUT IN THE APPLICATION YESTERDAY. . They said they were from the SOcial Security department and wanted to fifnih up my application.
Caller said they were from Social Security and had correct info about benefits about to be received and was looking for banking information to deposit it. Thank goodness my father doesn't have the banking information. I put a security alert on his credit report just to be safe and am reporting the fraud to social security's inspector general.
Caller from same number called individual in central WV. Had some Social Security info such as when person started receiving payments. Person called has unlisted number. It appears the social security database has either been compromised or an employee is selling data again.
Called said they were with SSI and wanted SSI info, how much money we had in our accounts were we lived, how much we kept at our house and said if we lied we would be turned over to IRS. Said they were filling out the rest of our paper work adn would mail it to us Monday and if we had futher questions to call back Monday. This call went to my parents when i tried to handle it today the phone at this time is disconnected they are a verizon customer (Land Line)showing the call came from New York, New York. The police have been notified in NY, Verizon has been notified and the FBI will be notified. Please be careful this doesn't happen to you.
Peir Mauvey from social security administration (he said) called and was trying to track down a person with same name as my husband. said their was an error on payments or something. i said it must be the wrong person and that was the end. he said he was confused. i tried reverse directory with not much help at all.
