Same comment as Pat's. When i tried to do a reverse look-up all i got were sites that charge money to see the caller's name. Anyone know of a free site that will allow a reverse look-up? With so many scam calls, it would be too expensive to look them all up.

Caller identified himself as a representative of a charity for New Jersey policemen. Police and fire department charities are common scams often made by paid fundraisers according to the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC's website has good information on the questions you should ask callers who claim to represent police or firemen. Even if they do donate to legitimate organizations, the percentage for salaries, fundraising and overhead is often many multiples of the amounts actually donated.
