Leave a CommentI got this same call today. Same spiel about billing c****es. I always say that I will call AT&T myself to verify. Of course she gave me the same 8002220400 number and a badge number. I called the number on my bill instead. Yes it is a FRAUD!!! Unbelievable!
CALLER BEAWARE!!! SCAMMERS. I received a call from this number. The woman on the phone claimed she was from AT&T, and that AT&T needed my permission to swit****g BILLING companies..... "Billing Companies" that term I really haven't heard, but what do I know. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about......I asked a few questions got great answers. She even went as far to****ure me that she was from AT&T, a rep. and that there was a flier about this situation 90days ago, and that I was suppose to fill it out and mail it in. She wanted to make sure that I understood that if I didn't allow them to switch my billing provider that i was going to s**** receiving a separtate bill for each of the 4 lines that I have, and would be charged $6.99 for each bill, costing me nearly $38.00 extra each month.......GREAT TACKTIC....I was ready to varify my information with the person who records the converstion......Then the truth, they were trying to get me to c****e my long distance provider!! I went through this 3 times, and each time they****ured me that the long distance provider was the company who handles the billing, and that I just need to answer yes to all of the question......Bull, I contacted AT&T via e-mail, and they****ured that this was a scam, and that this number had belonged to AT&T before the merger with SBC, and that when they merged they got rid of the number. Don't fall for it....I almost did, and it really angered me. Sorry so long.
I used to answer this number. This is an OLD OLD OLD number for AT&T. Couldn't imagine them giving it up so I went looking and it is still AT&T. It belongs to Small Business Markets Customer Care. See www.corp.att.com/gov/care/
Got a call on my business line claiming that they were AT&T and my account was overcharged by 35% and they wanted to credit my account. They just wanted me to "verify" some information such as my other fax lines, etc...Called the number they left and its a bunch of recordings a lot like AT&T uses, probably old recorded messages. Anyway, watch out! I called AT&T from the number on their website and its not them.
