Leave a CommentIt's legit! No lie, I got a recorded vm first and ignored it, then got a real person leaving a vm and called back to find my account had been compramised. Give them a call but don't give out any info until they verify who they are... if they're really the bank then they should know all your financial history.
PS I just called RBC and found out that 1800 399 2697 was legit. They told me the same and some people - that my client card was maybe used somewhere that is under investigation. So, it is NOT a SCAM. But also good to call the bank from a listed number, not the number left on a message. We cant be TOO careful no***ays!
I also received this message last night. It had me stressed believing so****ing was wrong with my account. I typed the 1-800 # into Google and found this info about this scam! I called RBC they told me to report it to their fraud dept @ [email protected] free to also do so.
As others have said the call is legit -- Ignore idiots like winnipegger who are incapable of clicking the link provided by Peter. Go get yourself a new bank card and c****e your pin if you get this call.
Today I received a call from 1 800 399 2697 on my cell phone. It was an automated system that actually said my full name and identified that it was RBC security calling. The message said that I was to call back. I thought the call was bogus at first. 5 minutes later my work phone rang and the automated system a***n called out my full name and identified itself as RBC Security. I called the RBC number off their website and they confirmed that my card was compromised. I was required to go to the ***nch to get a new temp card and c****e my PIN.
SCAM SCAM SCAMWhen it doubt, call the main office phone number of the company. Seriously, even if there was an issue at least you know it was legitimate if you, yourself, call the actual office or local ***nch. Telemarketing companies buy recycled telephone lists, they use ca***a 411, yellow pages, etc. Unfortunately cell phone numbers are recycled every 6-12 months, and if they keep calling, it only costs 20 bucks to c****e your number. And the sad part is, the Telemarketers on the other end actually get away with all this junk they do. As long as they pay their license to be in business and a registered name (even though it may be extremely similar to a well known company) .. there's no real stopping them.Trust no one.
legitimate. I called royal bank and apparently my card has been skimmed somewhere A***N AGIAN A***AN ...fu#@$@4
legitimate. I called royal bank and apparently my card has been skimmed somewhere.
According to their site, it's legit:http://www.rbc.com/privacysecurity/ca/alert-automated-call-faq.html
Same number on the caller ID but the recording said World Bank.I ***g up.
I received the same call on my cell phone, it was a ma****e that used my name but didn't provide the last 4 digits like some of these other posts. I called Royal bank (not the number that called me) and they said there was nothing wrong with my card. I called the actual number that called me and it said it was the royal bank security dept. The interesting thing is that to confirm my iden***y I had to press 1. Never have I caled Royal and had them verify me in this way, they always speak to you and ask for personal info to verify iden***y (my address, date of birth, things like that). So I'm inclined to beleive it's a scam, especialy since i spoke directly with the security dept and they showed no such problems with my cards...any of them (cient card or credit). Be careful!! Just because it says Royal bank security dept, doesn't mean it is. Security wouldn't call you with a ma****e. And they would certainly ask for more than just pressing 1 to verify who you are. I'm sure it simple for scammers to et up a recoring that sounds like it's from RBC. CALL ROYAL BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING...AND NOT THE NUMBER THAT CALLED YOU, CALL THE FRAUD NUMBER OR YOUR ***NCH DIRECTLY AND HAVE THEM LOOK INTO IT FOR YOU.
Got a call today but didn't answer. After seeing this website though, I called RBC to doub****eck if the number is legitimate and it is. They transferred me to the security department where an automated message informed me that my card had been used in a place where security was compromised and I have to go to the bank to get a new card. My suggestion for anyone who receives a call from this number is to call RBC and ask them what the phone call was regarding.
I am in Ca***a, and got a call from a ma****e from Royal Bank asking me saying it was their security service and I needed to call I was kind of skeptical about it even though they had my name and last four digits from my bank card. But I called and all it was, was a ma****e saying my card had been used at a business they believe had compromised security and I needed to go to a Royal Bank and get a new one asap.
i received the same call. Nothing wrong with my card. I phoned the Royal Bank and they did confirm it as a legit call. I had used my card somewhere that had been compromised and I was to get a new card and pin number.
Legitimate, just called the bank and the rep transferred me to the security services dept, I also have to go to the ***nch and get a new client card as my card was used at a ma****e/vendor that is currently under investigation...oh well, off to the bank I go.
They called me this morning saying I should contact them ASAP about my client card ending in the last 4 digits of my card. They identified themselves as being from the RBC security department.I called the Royal Bank main number (1-800-769-2511) and was told it is a legitimate number from their security department. The rep then looked into my account and said my debit card has been frozen because somewhere I recently used my card has had problems with fraud and that my card may be compromised. I will have to go into a ***nch to get a new card and a new pin number before I can use it a***n.This has happened to me once before (that time, I had the misfortune of trying to use my card before getting the call - and it was rejected). Thus, this was a legitimate phone call and not a scam. For others reporting getting calls like this, perhaps it is the phone number on file for the person in question?
They have called me twice in the last 24 hours on my cell. They do not have the correct name and I am not an RBC customer so I know its a scam. DO NOT GIVE THESE IDIOTS ANY INFO.
It's supposedly RBC "Security Department". They called my workplace, with an "important message" for somebody (they asked for this person by name) who quit the company about three years ago. Next time these people call us, they'll be hearing from our corporate lawyers, and we'll report this to CTV News, CBC and the attorney general.
Same here! It's a bank scam DO NOT call back or give any information. Better luck next time loosers. Hope you endup in jail where you belong
got a call today they asked for my security #. No way I will Check with the bank in person as soon as it opens tomorrow
