The BBB as a whole IS the pinnacle of ethics in business and charities alike. It was only when they went to bed with JP Marketing, that they lost their way and woke up with a serious case of ****es. The mission of the BBB is a good one across all verticles. However, how can they tell consumers to stay clear of telemarketers while they employ the same tactics when using John "*******" Ponder's phone sales ****od. I do believe they are s****ing to see and correct the errors of their ways and wisely reverting back to field sales where a rep actually comes to a place of business and does a full interview. Then the info is brought back and the company is fully vetted before membership is granted. Many still use the face to face approach. And they should.
Corrupt to the CORE...I had one WV bussiness owner say..405.00 annual fee!! Last year they offered it to me for 275.00. I said, are you sure that it was the BBB and NOT a chamber ? Yes, she said. Here is what I have strong reason to suspect..the questions , or re****als posed to the owner are NOT for my aid as a marketer, but****IST the company member listening in on the call to spot a****ential buyer who is balking at the 405.00 and would welcome it at 277.00. I HAVE DONE THE WORK and SEE NO ***N.There is another company in town where they offer a GSA contract for 7500 and over in the next building sits those listening in on that call and they call back and offer it for 1500. If employees were told up front that this was the case..then there should be nothing to gripe about..THIS IS NOT THE CASE.The STATE OF FLORIDA KNOWS ABOUT THESE COMPANIES AND WILL NOT POLICE THE THEIF FROM SMALL LITTLE PEOPLE LIKE ME AND MY CO-WORKERS. I AM BEGINNING TO HATE THIS SOCIETY BECAUSE EVERYWHERE I LOOK IS A SCAM AND THOSE IN THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT STOP THEM SO I AM LEFT TO WONDER JUST WHO IS INVOLVED.

Corrupt.....so corrupt that I want to run an ad asking that former employees join me in a class action suit...I got hired and they spotted me as the most likely to do well on the phone..they sat me next to an employee with 7 yrs in the company...he never PROSPECTED with cold calls. I worked my A** off from 8-4:30 M-F. The latest CREW hired generated a lot of call ins from SCARED business owners thinking they were party to an complaint. Those calls at this COMMISSION ONLY job were supposed to go to the marketer who generated the call...however they were passed to two of the older people with the company and then they could make the most bucks.HOWEVER I was NOT told that what I generated could be passed off to a friend,on the owners payroll. I had owners say,,,fax it over. I did and they bought from me. I STOPPED leaving a message, that is an scare tactic to an owner. I told them up front what the call was about...Two of the managers were actively routing my call ins to others and even after they saw I was good..put two other reps in the state I called..and to prevent my numbers from going too the higher pay range, routed my calls to others in the same state. The managers arrived early and I kept finding my phone that had messages before I left , with NO mesages when I got back.I also was forwarded the same message over and over from different extensions,,AFTER I HAD ERASED IT.The option to forward was a phone feature.I ask why the two older people did not work like the rest of us did...and they then said..we give them the call ins.***** no I never signed on to make anyone a check, but me with my efforts..I kept finding and implementing ways to prevent the theft of my production by the internal managers of a company doing marketing for the BBB..I.E. when an owner said fax it over...I was forbidden to fax, unless I got a check or credit card..I said OK hold on..I will fax and take the card all in one motion....I was fired today and the reason was that, I told a co- worker that big brother has cameras all thru the town and can even see the auto tags as we drive in town and who knows that down computer could be an audit...I guess the thief who had been passed some of my call ins got concerned...what an an asinine thing to pass our hard work to a few of the older crew and there and THEN give them an award for the MOST production and a *** check. You are correct that fees vary based on how high they think they can get away with in an area. It is not fair, nor based consistent for each state. The concept of the BBB is great, but it is still in my opinion party to a scam. This job paid commission on a sliding scale and part of the job was that we had to take leads home and look them up at night..and it it takes hours of time for which I and the others received no pay. Please do NOT suggest an FLORIDA attorney cause they will NOT go a***nst the way it is.The STATE of FLORIDA will NOT protect the wages of HONEST phone sales reps.
it is a very corrupt organization----check out the moosic/scranton office for example-----many things have been in the press but i want to mention one important one here ----the same size firms do not pay the same fees-----there were firms with over 400 employees paying less than 500 dollars---firm with about 600 employees paying about 350-----many pay nothing--they supposedly "barter"-----the people that work there will do anything to get some money flowing in---it keeps them in an easy job with great pay and benefits-----------someday there should be a class action suit---if members knew where their money went they would be in shock !-----phantom payrolls-----pay to vendors (friends or relatives of employees or board members themselves )---------------get your money back and close this and other predatory offices of the bbb down
You received a call from JP Marketing, a private telemarketing company that pays its employees the minimum wage while the owner John Ponder and a few of his close friends get rich from the commission the not-for-profit BBB's pay for incresed membership. You are told that BBB accreditation is "by invitation only", which is not true. Telemarketers work off telephone book leads and lie that the company they are calling has been pre-approved. In this economy, the BBB is not your wisest investment. They very often report unfavorably on industries that telemarket, yet resort to the same tactic themselves, but add a little "lie" here and there as well.
Check this out! This guy calls me saying he is with the BBB. So naturally I give them a hard time, because his call says PRIVATE CALL. I put him on hold and I call the BBB to ask about him. They said "Yes he does work here". So, I went back to the conversation a little scared because I was being rude to who I thought was a telemarketer. Turns out he was inviting me to join because I had NO complaints on my company. I have been in business too long to get my reputation burned on one lame person, so I applied over the phone. Two weeks later I was accepted. I got approved. I looked up some compe***ion in my area and some have complaints. I know I run a better ship than they do, and now I can prove it!
I received a similar call and simply advised them that I do not respond to telephone inquiries for info of this type and asked them to mail me a questionnaire and I would gladly reply. The caller replied "Thank You" and ***g up. When/If I receive do***ents I can then verify mailing address and respond accordingly.
HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED CALLING THE BBB AND ASKING ABOUT IF THIS CALL IS LEGIT? I DID, AND IN FACT, IT WAS A REAL PHONE CALL, AND IT WAS THE BBB. I CALLED DIRECTORY****ISTANCE AND THEY CONNECTED ME TO THE BBB, AND I ASKED ABOUT (NAME) AND THEY SAID THEY DO WORK THERE. WHEN IN DOUBT, CALL THE BBB. IT IS WORTH THE VERIFICATION!JJ
Calls and says he is Eric from the BBB
I spoke with a representative by the name of Carla M from the BBB with this number in question. I checked it out, she is indeed employed by the Better Business Bureau, I confirmed this to be true. Carla was very helpful, friendly and professional.
called today, April 22, 2008 at 1:13 p.m. EST. He said he was Steve Guzo from the BBB at ext. 231.
