Leave a CommentIt's is a scam 800 phone number. I have just confirmed with CapitalOne's customer service.
Has this # call a relative to verify my ID. My relative did not give out any information but called me instead. I called Capitol One and after some run around got to a person with some intelligence. I was told that if the fraud department suspects that an application was possibly fraudulent, they will use public records to verify that you exist and that you are applying for capitol one. While the people at the Capitol One call centers are mostly *****s, the supervisors are relatively intelligent and they can explain this process. Overall, not happy with the way they are on the phone but I see what they are trying to do and I do appreciate them checking to make sure that some *****-head isn't getting a card in my good name to run up a tab at the local mall.
Received a call on my answering ma****e from Judy at this number. It was left for my daughter in law who lives nowhere near me. I called the number and got Sonya who sounded just like Judy. She asked for my credit card number. I told her I did not have a card with them & never would. She then asked for my social security # to make sure there were no alerts on their records. Told her no way she was going to get that from me. She said she would get me to a supervisor and after 10 seconds on hold, she ***g up. I called back to continue the conversation with this supervisor and this time I got Diane who sounded just like Judy and Sonya. She asked for the same information which she did not get. I asked her where I was calling and she said it was Costa Rica. I told her I guess our business was done and ***g up on her. I alerted my daughter in law and she had nothing to do with Capitol One. Our guess is that her name was sold to them from their recent home purchase application. Beware!!
Claimed to be the Capital One Fraud Department
Got a message from 800-452-7820 saying there is fraud on my account and that i need to call them. I am not a card holder, have no account with them. i called them to tell them to take my number off their call list and the person demanded my social over the phone. I laughed at him telling him it's ironic the fraud dept would ask me that and told him there is no way i am giving it over the phone. he ***g up on me. i called back and got a supervisor who said that is outside of their protocol but wow, that sure sounds like a scam to me.
I got a phone call from 800-452-7820 asking to confirm my Capitol One credit card application. The people who answered seemed unprofessional so I called the main Capitol One customer service number and asked for the fraud department. The fraud department said that 800-452-7820 is a legitimate Capitol One number.
They wanted to do a fraud check on a card that I applied for. Not sure it is on the up and up so I wouldn't give them my birth day. What's up with this?
Capital one checked public records after I applied for a business card and called a relative who immediately called me. I called the number that was sent to me in a letter congradulating me, that i was approved for an account. The said some BS story that they wanted to "check if you received the credit card." I never gave them any info on this other person - but they had her phone number and left four consecutive numbers - with four different reasons for the call, all emergent. We called the 800-452-7820 number and some one with ID # OWC666 said that it was there practice to check public records and to verify that someone exists. I was given the run around & spoke with four different individuals on Capital one to get them to cancel the card that I hadn't received. I will be reporting this practic to the FDIC.
Got a call from this number saying they were Capital One confirming my account??
called my mother to make sure that I was legit applying for a new card
