Leave a CommentWe were in the Dominican Republic and got stuck at the airport and had to make a phone call from a "pay phone." We used our debit card for the 3 minute phone call and got charged $41.91. What is worse is that 7 days after that charge posted on my account, someone in Lutz, FL used my number 8 times in one day at 3 different gas stations to charge $700.
Went to Costa Rica. Gave the Tamarindo Diria my credit card to hold for charges I might make a***nst the room number. I never had any charges and took back the swiped credit card bill and ripped it up and put it in two different garbage cans. Even though I never used the credit card in Costa Rica at all, I had three charges, referencing this number, to the card. The last was for a time I was never in Costa Rica. The amounts, su****iously close to one another were, 41.91, 41.94, and 41.89. So****ing is rotten with this number and some employees at the hotel.
After arriving home from England, I needed to call my parents to figure out some travel arrangements, since my flight had been delayed. I unfortunately didn't have any quarters on me, and the c****e ma****e was broken, so I decided I could use my credit card. I thought it would be charged the normal long distance rate of $1.00 for the first four minutes (which was advertised on the side of the phone). I look at my online account today and see three charges (I had to call three separate times), one for $7.25, one for $8.35 and one for $9.75!! These were normal long distance calls in the US, each less than 5 minutes or so, and were made from a US pay phone to a US land line. The company name given by my bank was 'BBG', and the phone number was the one mentioned, 8006060486. The listing on my statement says so****ing about the calls being made to Great Britain, and the bank teller I was talking to said that the calls were to London, so I guess the phone connected overseas and then called Glenwood Springs, CO, which is a mere 200 miles away.F*ck these guys. Thats the last time I ever put my bank card into a pay phone. I hope they get shut down.
I too got ripped off by one of those *808 numbers that appear on France Telecom booths everywhere. And I'd like to make it clear that I got to France under my professor's funding for a conference. I definitely could not have paid for the trip on my own so neither can I afford those ridiculous fees.I arrived in Paris and the hostel's (expensive) internet was either down or would not work function with my laptop, try as they might to make it. It was around 11:30pm and I really needed to let concerned persons in Ca***a know that I was alright. The receptionist pointed me to a Tabac across the street which turned out to be closed. As it was pitch-black everywhere I finally settled for calling to Ca***a using a nearby phone booth. France Telecom booths allows for the use of credit cards to make calls and I already expected to be slammed with so****ing like $15 for a 6-8 minute call. That would have been fine for an urgent call like this for me. Unfortunately my credit card would not work with that ma****e (French cards have chips now). When I saw that official-looking sticker on the phone to Dial *808 for calls to USA, Ca***a etc, I thought it was the option that France Telecom has for people in my same predicament. I know I should have thought it over more but that doesn't mean a company that takes advantage of people like that should be allowed to keep on making money. They charged me $85.19 for that call. And they didn't post the charges until a long time later. By then I had the ****** idea to make a two more 1-minute urgent phone calls through them costing $39.80 each. The company involved here is called International Satellite Communications. Add the words "phone call" or "rip-off" to find a lot of other complaints regarding them. This is their phone number1-800-606-0486I have called them and they offered me some credit that would not cons***ute even half of the total cost of my phone call. When I didn't accept this and asked to talk to someone else the man on the phone gave me his well-practiced "I know it is expensive, it is an expensive service. But you made the calls. W***ver you speak to here will give you the same answer."I want to get my money back but more than that, I want this company exposed. I am writing a full article-style complaint a***nst this company that I will send to them, magazines and newspapers. I'm also sending it to France Telecom and the locations where I found the *808 stickets: CDG airport and Centre Commercial Montparnasse. I'll even send it to my credit card company because they advised me to just accept the credit since apparently "that company wins complaints like this all the time." They certainly will if we keep letting them.If you have any ideas to help or have anything to add to my research please email me at:complaints.a***nst.i****mail.com
I called from Munich for about 20 seconds and was billed 40 USD. My creditcard company was not helpful - they said I actually used the service and they can not comment on the fairness of the rates but they directed me to complain to the fair trade commission.
I just got a bill for two 2 min conversations from the Frankfurt airport for 120 USD. This is absolutely unethical and predatory and someone needs to be held responsible for pulling such a scam on travelers!
They charged me $30 for a 1 minute call from from an airport phone Germany to Austria. So I just called them to complain. As a 1st time customer, they gave me a $12 credit. Better than nothing but the remaining $18 is still insultingly high.
My husband just got deployed and they werew stopped in Germany. He called me from the phone using our debit card bc he couldn't get his calling cards to work. He called 2 times. The 1st time we talked to 45 SECONDS! The 2nd time he just left me a voice mail (less the a minute) They were $46 for EACH CALL!!! AHHH! I was ****ed!!1
oh my go***** i can't believe OTHER people have been ripped off by this place!!! i bought a 10 pound calling card in great britain and when the time ran out, it disconnected the conversation i was having, but then connected me to an operator who said i could charge the rest on my credit card. of couse, she was from MEXICO and spoke horrible english, so i was under the impression i was adding money to my calling card. NO!!!! i got home to a bill of $100.76 for TWENTY MINUTES!!!!! this is RIDICULOUS!!!!!
I just got back from the Dominican Republic and checked my credit card bill to find $41.91 charged (from 8006060486) for a literally 30 second call to the US to wish my Dad a happy birthday. Are any of you having luck taking this up with your credit card companies?
