Leave a CommentI received a very official looking notice stating I owed over 6,000$ in back taxes on our 2022 tax returns. It was a seven page report with an IRS Notice describing taxpayer rights. As I reviewed it I caught a couple of things which caused me to question. I then used Been Verified to identify the phone number and saw that this was likely a scam number and then read other reports from people also scammed. I wish we could catch these people and provide significant consequences to their actions as I am certain many fall for this.
Received letter from IRS stating we owed back taxes from sale of stocks. There was no such sale. But, letter was very specific as to which stock and when it was sold. Looked very accurate. Almost fell for it.
Received a official looking letter from the department of the Treasury stating I owed money,$1573.00, for 2020 tax year return. Looked the number, 800-829-8310, up on been verified and found it out to be FRAUD Spam.

I received a letter stating that I owed $2,582, from 2019 taxes. It states the: Proposed amount due: $2,582. Also states: We are proposing c****es to your $2019 Form 1040 tax return. It says this is not a bill. However, they say if not paid by July 7th then it would ac***ulate interest. This letter came from Philadelphia.
I also got a IRS scam letter saying I owed over 100,000 to them. I checked the phone number here on Been Verified. Thank you Been Verifed!
Sent a letter to call this number about back taxes owed from 2 years ago.
We received a CP2000 alleging that we owe almost $11,000 for the 2017 tax year. Pardon the joke, but not even the government could be as incompetent as some of the reasons given are. The address is STOP 6692 AUSC, AUSTIN, TX 73301-0021. Be careful, the form itself is very plausible. The IRS website says we owe nothing and this phone number isn't listed there, even for Austin, TX.
