Leave a CommentI received the same kind of call. Said Security Essentials was good but only worked w/ viruses. He helps with Malware and says he represents Microsoft. Clearly a scam to create remote computer packaging that will use your computer along with lots of others. As person above advised, DO NOT let Help Tec Rep talk you into turning on your computer and doing things to it while you are on the phone with him.
This is a big scam beware!! DO NOT LET THIS PERSON TELL YOU TO OPERATE YOUR COMPUTER TO FIX IT! Man called me to say he was from help-tek and he was going to fix my computer from malware. He was very demanding that he was affiliated with Microsoft windows. He wants to put software on your computer to remotely control it! BEWARE
