I've been in contact with this man the last few days. I've been looking for a a home to rent. He is definitely scamming people. I had a gut feeling so my husband and I did some research and just seen the comment that was put in here. I'm so sorry that happened to you! I found a property listed for rent on Realtor.com for $1,980/month. The listing appeared legitimate, and I inquired about the rental. Shortly after, I received a text message from someone claiming to be the property manager or landlord. I responded and proceeded to complete a rental application provided by them. The individual gave me access to the home through the Opendoor app, which allowed me to tour the property. Everything seemed professional at the time. I was then instructed to pay an application fee and a security deposit, which I did. However, when it came time to meet in person to receive the keys, the individual stopped responding. I contacted Opendoor directly and was informed that the property was not listed by them, nor was the person I had been communicating with associated with their company. They advised me to file a police report as I had likely been scammed.
