I received cashier's check No. 386709 for $1,530.00 by mail and cashed it on Dec. 1, 2011. The adjoining letter requested my services as a "mystery shopper". I was instructed to evaluate Western Union by sending $990.00 to a Paula Hansen in London, Ontario, Ca***a, then fill in a report on the efficacy and comportment of the Western Union agent. I was also to purchase $150.00 in goods from Walmart and evaluate the performance of sales personnel. The purchased goods were mine to keep. The remaining money (about $314.00 after deducting the cost of the wire transfer was to be the remuneration for my services. I was to send my evaluation report to a Bestmark Co. of Minnetonka MN, together with the Western Union MTCN receipt and the receipt for the Walmart goods. I complied fully with their instructions. Yes****ay, December 8, 2011 I received notification from my bank that the cashier's check had been returned unpaid and that they were charging my account for the defaulted amount of $1,530.00. The original check was drawn on Finance Center Federal Credit Union of 7101 E. 56th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46226. The name of my Bestmark Co. telephone contact was Lisa Green. The person signing the letter was Leslie Gruden. Their telephone number is 818 666-8487. How can an Indiana bank such as the Finance Center Federal Credit Union have issued a cashier's check and then defaulted on it? It is incomprehensible. What can I do at this point?
