I hope this info helps someone out there... This is a widely known SCAM. Please stay strong. Do not let these people fool you/scare you. I've worked in many law firms & with a very prominent Collections Harassment attorney for years. These people & anyone else who uses language/tactics like this are not legitimate & will take all of your money. You can find many people verifying this caller here: https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-844-396-9470 and here https://www.tellows.com/num/8443969470 Also, the FBI has put out a warning to people about these types of calls - just Google it No legitimate collection agency operates in this way. These companies have been calling people for many years, using the exact same/similar language each time. Their tactic is to scare/intimidate the person into thinking they're in trouble for an old debt/unpaid bill. They always say so****ing to this affect "This is ______ calling for (your name). This is a courtesy call regarding a claim in my office. My intent at this time is to move forward by the end of the business day. For whatever reason there is a failure to respond, I also need to inform you my efforts were do***ented. This claim has been verified and you've been notified. Any concerns, call ____-____-_______". They might also tell you to call back their "Legal department" and give you a file or reference number. If you call them back, typically they will say you have a large $$ outstanding from an old debt/loan/credit card. If you can't make that payment in full today, you will be served papers from a local sheriff at your work or home, or they will file a claim and take you to court for a lot more money/have your wages garnished. If you try to tell them you can't pay that, they might try to cut a "deal" with you for half payment today. Thats not how debt collection works. That's not how Any of this works. What they are doing is absolutely illegal. Do Not Ever call these people back. They will do their best to scare you into giving them credit card payment over the phone right then "or else blah blah blah things will happen". Please don't fall for this. You have nothing at all to worry about - it is absolutely fake. If you happen to answer a random number's call, take a moment to slow down & recognize if the caller is using some of the same language/tactics listed above. If so, **** up the phone immediately. You do not need to be polite. They will probably keep calling you. Hold your ground and send them to voicemail, or block their numbers. Any Legitimate debt collector will send you their official debt collection notices via physical mail (sometimes Certified Mail). They legally have to provide you with the important details you need to know it's a valid debt, and they have the right to attempt collection of the debt (legally). Legit Debt Collectors will also call you, but they will leave a very specific type of voicemail. They are bound by Federal law to provide the following statement: "This message is for _________. This is (insert company name) calling in an attempt to collect a debt. Please give us a call back at ____-____-_______". They will be professional, and most of the time very courteous and helpful if you do need to call them back. Legit companies will not ever threaten you with a warrant, being served papers, wage garnishment, a random unspecified "claim in their office being filed by EOD", or any other scare tactics. It is much safer to never discuss these details with anyone over the phone. If you receive a debt collection notice in the mail, always validate it before sending any money to them. Scammers are not only calling people to intimidate for money, they are also crafting fake debt collection notices & mailing them out to unsuspecting victims. Even if a collection letter *seems* legit - Always send them back a debt validation letter. You can find examples of these letters online if you just Google "Sample Debt Validation letter". Takes less than 5 minutes for you to type or write one up. Send it back to the place and wait. They have a ****mum of 30 days to reply to you with proof of the debt's validity And proof that they have the right to collect this specific debt. Hope everyone stays aware and safe with their personal info out there in the hands of these creeps.
They keep calling and saying my husband owes for a credit card that we don't owe. It's dated for 2013.Keep calling from different numbers also.Say they are going to forward this to have him served. Will not even give me a chance to talk just s**** threatening to have us served.I believe if this was a legit company there would be more information then this.
