Leave a CommentI just reported that this number sent a text message to my husband’s cellphone number. I just got the same text message saying the exact same thing. It’s got to be a robo calling system that spends all day sending out these text messages. My phone number is similar to my husband’s cellphone number, but it’s a few ***dred numbers higher. Example (not our actual numbers) : last four digits are 5006, then my number is like 6267. So I’m****uming it’s calling every number in our area code with the same exc****e and going numerically down the list of numbers to find legitimate people that have a phone number in the area and sending them this text message. It’s unbelievable that I pay AT&T like $14.00 a month to stop these kinds of calls from getting through. Well, they are getting ready to loose a long time customer for over 20yrs. I have had the same phone number from when it was originally GTE, then briefly Verizon I think, and now AT&T. Sadly, they could care less.
Received a Text from a phone number that says the following: [U.S. POSTAL SERVICE] We have issues with your shipping address. Check the address and send the parcel a***n. There is also am imbedded link for you to click on directly after the above message. The big clue that this is some sort of scam is that we have not sent anything to anyone through the USPS. We have been paying all of our bills by phone for two years now. We sent four gifts from a few mail order companies to people for Christmas, but we know that they all have arrived to those individuals. I have not and will not open the link as it is probably going to infect the device with malware or some other form of information gathering. Scams like this are going to become increasingly common with all of the other issues we are facing currently. I think that this was intentionally targeting a person that is a Senior Citizen. The people who are stealing information by hacking into internet devices generally tend to target Seniors as they aren’t as aware of the increasing number of malicious attacks on various devices and computers. I have not tried to call this number. If you call some of them back from a cellphone, it will only give these people more information that they can use to try and get into your personal information. They can ***n access to credit cards and banking information and that’s why they are doing this to begin with. These people are nothing but common thieves. The few times I have called back these numbers from our old land line, I would get a recording from the phone company saying that the number is unavailable. Sometimes I would get an individual that was the legitimate owner of the number that is being s****ed. I would think it would be extremely odd for the USPS to try and contact anyone via text message. I also would think that they would call the phone number they have on file for the individual who received the su****ious message if they had a shipping problem. A quick internet search of the phone number on my laptop reveals that the number listed is registered to the Tallahassee FL Department of Motor Vehicles, Request for insurance information form department. So someone is s****ing a state government phone number and sending out text messages that are more than likely scams! Just beware of any su****ious numbers, texts, and emails that you don’t recognize. I hate seeing our Senior Citizen’s, and others getting taken advantage of by crooked people. As inflation and other issues related to the Covid Pandemic increase, so will the number of scams by crooked people looking to steal pertinent information from individuals. Especially those that aren’t tech savvy and realize that just because it’s from the USPS, doesn’t mean it’s not an elaborate scam designed to scare people. These calls, texts, and emails could be malicious attacks on their internet devices. One real problem is that most of these people are located outside of the United States and getting any lost funds back is nearly impossible.
