S****ed off getting a call from 202-728-3179 - a young man frantic - saying Mom, Mom, I just had a car accident, I'm in jail with broken nose - failed the alcohol test - I just had a power drink - you have to call my attorney, David Bernstein, at 877-841-4819. Called that number and got (supposedly) Paul Berman who said he was affiliated with Bernstein but that his number was 855-895-3810. This number supposedly belongs to David Bernstein - scam public defender telling about your son who caused an accident with another car victim (pregnant & injured as well as her small child). Son is being held with bail set at $90,000 for DWI and reckless endangerment. He gives you a case/docket number and tells you to call the Criminal Court to arrange to pay $9,000 to get son out of jail. He (Bernstein) will pick son up and take him to his car (damaged but able to be driven). It's a big hoax. Tried calling this number back and it was a fax receiving number. 202 number seems to be a Washington Post number (also rings back as a fax). I called back to 877 # and got Paul Berman - who said Bernstein is an attorney and that we might have been involved with a scam and not to sweat it. He said Bernstein was an attorney for the District of Columbia - the best. Then he said we were getting scammed and they were the best. I told him we would be reporting this.
