Portfolio Recovery Service...Says they're collecting on closed account from 1997. Past statute of limitations and never even belonged to me. They have no information they can send you. They purchase old debts and try to collect on them. Here are other numbers they also call from:518-207-3600; 702-410-7069; 205-423-4020; 412-282-1420; 443-313-1380;208-588-8181; 404-592-5171; 407-347-4014; 484-489-2840; 620-662-8870; 731-984-7690; 859-918-0780; 757-961-3544; 865-292-0385; 678-265-1568; 440-580-0720; 620-662-8870; 757-864-0020; 731-215-8010; 205-599-8181; 800-387-1357; 800-383-8013.I have blocked these numbers and continue to block every number they call on.

QUIT CALLING.............IDIOT (859) 918-0780
Don't know them; they've called every couple of days for the last 8 months. We have no outstanding debts and all our numbers are registered on the National "Do Not Call" Registry. We want this to stop.
I suspect Portfolio Recovery is hiring people from all over the US and having them use their own phones to make the calls. That is the only thing I can think of as to why they can have so many numbers from all over the place.

Now that my credit is fixed and I do everything right now. They call constantly2-3 times a day. they now call for a credit card that I defaulted on in 1989. is that a joke or what? Definatly fraudulant practices. What ever you do, never say you owe the debt. They get you saying "yes I owe it" your done. I personally use a program on my droid phone called Mr Number. It rejects all numbers not in your contacts. Or you can set it up to block all numbers s****ing with the first three numbers of the number. In this case all numbers in the 859 area code. add as many area codes you wish. You can make an exception by typing in a number you want to recieve from that area code. awsome program. They get ***g up on every time, then are left with a busy signal.
Junk Debt Buyers - a growing slime pit There's a thriving industry of debt buyers who purchase very old and long-neglected debts for pennies on the dollar. They tack on fees and interest, and then try to collect the entire amount for the full amount plus interest. They're junk debt buyers, and while their business isn't necessarily wrong or illegal, their practices often are. Problem is, a lot of debt buying firms are bottom-feeding s***bags who will resort to any ****** tactic to make a buck, and have no respect for the law. Specifically the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which they regularly abuse, taking advantage of consumers' ignorance of their rights and timidity when confronted by tough collectors. Their secret is, they purchase old, bad debts that the original creditor wrote off as un-collectable, and then pursue them years later when your credit score has come back up. See, they aren't ******. If you're the same 420-credit score who never paid that bill for the last 10 years, they won't waste your time. But if you've gone on to purchase a home and clean up your act and you're now enjoying a 650-plus score, you're their prime target. These debtors, they (correctly) reason, are more likely to settle up these old debts now that they've achieved some financial security. Especially when the collector has illegally re-aged the account and brought the debtor's credit score crashing to earth.GOOGLE: PORTFOLIO RECOVERY HARASSMENT -also- STOP JUNK DEBT COLLECTORSPortfolio Recovery Portfolio Junk Debt Collectors'Zombie' debt is hard to **** - MSN Moneyjunk debt collectorsSOL debt collectorsPortfolio Recovery A**PORTFOLIO RECOVERY HARASSMENThttp://www.fair-debt-collection.com/searches/stop-collection-calls.htmlhttp://www.thesite.org/homelawandmoney/law/victims/phoneharassmenthttp://credit.about.com/od/debtcollection/Debt_Collection.htm
