Leave a Commentthis number is listed as belonging to an elderly woman in haines city, florida. I seriously doubt that she is randomly calling tons of people as being reported by many others on all the different phone websites. Posts on other websites say that there is a new scam......telemarketers and scammers using (s****ing) the phone numbers of regular people in the hopes that the person will pick up the phone. The numbers of regular people are not likely to be found on the lists of s****ed numbers such are available at caller complaints website. I don't know who the caller is from this number.......but you can bet it is not the elderly woman to whom it is registered. Sounds like a scam for sure.
called a***n this evening. no message.
Recent articles at better business bureau, scam busters dot com and the fiscal times dot com explain that there are 2 new scams that telemarketers and scammers are using. First.....they are using the telephone numbers of regular people (who have no idea that their phone numbers are being s****ed and scammed). These include small businesses, friends and neighbors of the targeted householder and pretty much anyone with a phone or fax. The objective is to get the householder to pick up the phone. Most people are aware of the lists of s****ed numbers available so the scammers are looking to use numbers that are not on those lists. The other new scam is that the scammer uses the householders own phone number. The objective is that the householder will be so shocked or so curious...or both... that his own phone number is showing up in the caller ID, that he will pick up. BBB article warns a***nst this. rule of thumb: do not believe anything you see in the caller ID. If you see a number that you think looks familiar (a friend, your doctor, etc.). Don't pick up. Then, call that person to see if they really called you. If its a "doctor" or a "bank" that called you, do not pick up. Call them back on their MAIN number that is listed in the phone book.
