Leave a CommentWalmart checking to confirm I made a rather large purchase.
This is Walmart. I recently had a fraudulent charge on my card but I was traveling and it was immediately removed so I thought nothing of it. Then Walmart said I made a purchase for $629 and it was to be mailed to CA. I live in WV. They were able to cancel the charge and my credit card had to be canceled. I will ALWAYS answer this number. I believe my card info was stolen from a recent Etsy purchase.
4/13/2011I'm in California and I just got a call from this number to confirm my international billing address of my CC.Luckily my CC issuing company in my home country had contacted me earlier today to warn about recent su****ious transactions made with my credit card. The Walmart caller sound kind of weird and only after I ***g up the phone I realized i should have checked the number before speaking out. Thank God I read your previous comments and now I know the call was legit.
I had same experience as Dave from 20 Nov 2010. Thanks, glad Walmart.com was smart enough to catch these thieves before we got scammed. They caught it because the shipping address was in a different state from the billing address.
legit # for Wal-Mart. They called to verify a purchase over $750. I did not make such a purchase. They canceled the order and then I had to cancel my DiscoverCard which was used to make the purchase. Discover had a number of other unauthorized charges on my account. It would have taken me to the next statement before I would have picked up on the charges if not for the verification from Wal-Mart.
Got a call from 866-371-1946, Chadwick asking me to setup a conference call with my banking ins***ution to process an order for $4**, or the order would be cancelled. I checked online to make sure the phone number was legit, and saw these replies. I called back and told them I never ordered anything. They said they couldn't just cancel it and that I'd have to contact my banking ins***ution and dispute it. So I cancelled my card with my bank. Really frustrated that walmart.com will call to verify an order (great) but then won't cancel the order when you tell them it's fraudulent (Boo). But at least they made me aware of it (great). The next day I checked my bank online and saw the $4** transaction to walmart.com, processed with yes****ays date. Then, after reading here, I called 1-800-wal-mart (Main number) and pressed several sub-menus for customer, walmart.com, billing, possible fraud... 1-800-wal-mart said they hadn't heard of that 1946 number but it could be another department. I gave the referenced order number but they couldn't find that order number ??? They did verify that I'd had an older account there but no recent charges.THEN I asked if he could search by my billing address, or the CC number, or by my phone number (since my real phone had been called). He searched by phone number and found the $4** order... he verified my billing address... then told me that the order would be canceled, the item would not be shipped, and that the account****ociated with the order would be frozen.I still canceled my card right away, I still had to submit dispute forms with my banking ins***ution. But I did feel better calling the official walmart number and having him search by my phone number and finding and canceling the order. Maybe the dispute forms will prove to not have been necessary... but better safe than sorry. I still wonder why walmart.com calls to verify an order (and set up a conference call?)... but when you tell them it's fraudulent they can't just cancel the order.Others should call the main number: 1-800-walmart
Agree. Same happened to me today (11-12-10). Thanks Wal-mart.
you people were lucky that you got alerted.I had a $1,200.00 charge on my Visa from Walmart.and I found out by checking my statement 2 days after this was done.I called to cancel my cards....3 days later a man from Walmart.from Mobile Alabama called and was questing my order ......I live in FL..he said the numbers matched and that I may have sent the items to a different address..I'm not ***in dead.....then he said a woman called and wanted to know when she could get these items from the store.....hold it.I said...I want you to press charges NOW.....this was a fraudulent transaction....he said thank you and ***g up.today )ct 11 2010...the above number called and still asked if I purchased this item.....I told this girl what was what and told her.the card was cancelled last month....and I will NEVER ever order or shop in their store.I only go there in a pinch and never ordered online from them....so somewhere someone nailed my card online......Caller: walmart
This is a legit number and they were able to cancel a fraudulent order and get the charge off of my card. Of course you have to then cancel your credit card and that is another whole ordeal.
I'd like to throw in my 2 cents. I also received a call like this from wal-mart. I order from wal-mart all the time but before I did anything I checked here & saw the posts. I then went to the Wal-mart website & there were no orders ***nding, but I deleted all my credit cards, one being my business credit card & c****ed my password. I then noticed the order numbers for my past orders were entirely different than the number the lady left on the VM. I then checked all my credit cards whether I used them at Wal-Mart or not & there were no unauthorized charges pending on any of them. From the other posts, it sounds like this is a legitimate number, however if they are calling to verify an order & they told us they would cancel it if we didn't call them back, why do all the people posting here have charges on their cards?I am going to call the number and find put what they say & also c****e all my passwords. Someone hacked into my Yahoo acct & this is probably where they found this info - if any of you have had your e-mail compromised, that is how this probbaly happened. I guess I am lucky.
I was left a voice message as well, from a Brittney from Walmart.com from 866-371-1946. She said she was calling to confirm a recent online order placed through Walmart.com, and that the phone number provided did not match the phone number that my card issuer had. In her message she referenced an order number, and said if it wasn't confirmed within 24 hours the order would automatically be canceled on their end. When I called the number back it was after hours and her voicemail came on. Didn't really sound like a corporate type of voicemail system, so I was leery. I was also leery about how she got my number in the first place, if the one on file with the credit card issuer didn't match. However, I called my Chase credit card company directly and they confirmed there is a pending transaction from Walmart.com for over $500 that I didn't make. I had the card cancelled immediately.
Legit! Thank God for this call. Someone used my Chase Business account fraudulently.
This message is legit...They alerted me to su****ious activity with an online order (over $200) using one of my credit cards...I have never ordered anything online from Wal-Mart so they cancelled the order and I had to cancel my credit card. I have no idea how anyone got my credit card number to place an order although I do have a computer virus that hit my computer the day before this order was place.
I am happy to say that it is a legit number. They also didn't ask for any of my financial information. Just verified my named and what I ordered.
This a legit WalMart number. They called to verify an on-line order using a credit card.
Caller was from Wal-Mart calling to verify an online order we placed. Call was legit.
