Leave a CommentCall the Department of Education Federal Student Aid # for defaulted loans.800-621-3115 You will need to give verifcation informantion like date of birth and SS# to confirm you are who you say you are. They can't give your status information to just anybody. If you have a defaulted Student Loan it NEVER goes away and the interest really adds up.
The Student Loan is actually with the Department of Education. The Loan NEVER goes away. It only gets bigger and more damaging.
Student Loans NEVER go away. It is better to deal with them as soon as possible because the interest is ****er. Once you are in default status. The Departemnt of Education will take any federal or state refunds you would have had coming. If you are employed they have the option to garnish you up to 25% of your wages. Once garnishment s****s it doesn't stop until paid in FULL. Always better to keep communicating and explore options. Than to **** off the Department of Education or any agency that works for them.
Do you have to use such foul language? This is ridiculous.
FROM A COLLECTORS POINT OF VIEW:First of all , i do not work for Conserve, i work for another collection agency and know well enough that Conserve is a legit and reputable company ; they rank as one of the top collecting agencies for the Department Of Education. As previously stated in the above posting a collection agency must identify you (the debtor) via your personal information. EXAMPLE: Last four of your social security number , Full name AND date of birth , or full name AND home address . This is required PER FEDERAL LAW . With all the iden***y theft going around it is understandable that someone would not want to give their social security number over the phone , but please understand , they're not asking you for your social , they have the full social in front of them . Also , please take a second to think , if someones going to call you and ask you to verify your social its not because they're trying to steal your iden***y. If they wanted to steal your iden***y they would not call you to ask if its okay they would simply apply for credit cards and loans in your name. Furthermore , why would they steal someone with delinquent payments on their credit report? It just doesn't make sense. As for the ramifications of non payment , because this is a FEDERAL DEBT , there are no statute of limitations. This can be , but is not limited to : Administrative Wage Garnishment (Which does not require a court order) , Litigation , Judgements , both of which can be placed a***nst any****ets that you may own , and Federal Tax Offsets. Please understand that if you are being Garnished , Or if your taxes have been offset over the years , It will never pay your balance off. The reason for this is because it is not considered a voluntary payment . This means that you are still acrue fees and penalties on a daily basis. This is mandated per the department of education , not by the collection agency. Also , this is the agreement that YOU signed when you signed the promisary notes for the initial loan. The department of education does not care if you are aware of this or not , as long as your signature is on the piece of paper and its attached to your social security number then it is your federal obligation to cooperate with the collection agency , and or department of education until your balance is satisfied. INTEREST AND COLLECTION FEES:This is a tricky subject that i feel as a collector is not explained to the borrower (debtor) often enough when calling the company or when the company calls you. When you fall into a defaulted status 25% of your balance is attached is penalties , from that point on you will acru interest on a daily basis. Also , if you have been in default for a number a years , more than likely you have been with more than one agency. If no resolution is made on a account and if no payment arrangement is made you will more than likely be transfered to a different agency. When transferred to a different agency that company will also add their own collection fees to your file. THESE PENALTIES AND FEES CAN BE REMOVED or at least a portion of them. There are a few ways of going about doing this ; You can either A.) Arrange a settlement on your account . This removes a majority of the collection fees from your file , while reading this i'm sure some of you are thinking " Gee i have a $40,000 balance how will I ever be able to settle on this account? " Turn to any****ets that you may own . Look into refinancing your car , take out a second mortgage , turn to family if need be. Also , do you bank with a Federal Credit Union , or do you bank with a Commercial bank? If you answered : Federal Credit Union , then your in luck . In most cases , because they are a more personal bank , they may be more willing to offer you a loan in which you can settle on your student loan and save your self a few thousand dollars in the process , depending on your loan size . If you bank with a commercial bank , you may still have some luck ; However , as i'm sure you all know , Our economy is not in the best condition and Commercial banks are also not doing so well , trying to get a loan through them is nearly impossible. If settling on your account is not a option then the next best thing is the LOAN REHABILITATION PROGRAM LOAN REHABILITATION PROGRAM;Or also known as , "Rehab" is a payment arrangement that is set up through the collection agency. The arrangement is not intended to pay off your debt , in fact , there needs to be a remaining balance of at least $750 once your series of payments have finished. The standard length of time for this arrangement is 9 - 12 months . The collection agency will most likely set you up for a series of 12 payments . THESE PAYMENTS MUST BE SET UP VIA SECURED FUNDS! EXAMPLE : Checking account , Debit Card , Credit Card MOST COLLECTION AGENCIES NO LONGER ACCEPT MONEY ORDERS , WESTERN UNION , OR MONEY GRAMSThe reason for this is simple , It is not a secure ****od of payment . The order can easily be stolen , lost , or the borrower (debtor) simply will not send it. The latter of the 3 being the most common. If you are young , have horrible credit , or are on check systems and simply cannot obtain a secure ****od of payment the collector may ask you to use someone elses payment information. I myself , AS A COLLECTOR , do not advise this. This is your obligation and there are ways around this. Every gas station, Walmart, and Pharmacy carries Pre-Pay credit cards . You load the money on the card which you purchase for a small payment of $5 . As long as it has a Visa or a Mastercard logo it will be acceptable. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone paying off their student loan via loan rehabilitation. Simply open the card for the purpose of paying off your debt and load money on the card as needed. Its fool proof . No credit check required and no one is going to try to steal it . ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE OVER THE PHONE So yes , that means you must give your payment information over the phone to someone that you do not know , this does make most people un-easy . However , rest****ured that ALL CONVERSATIONS ARE RECORDED. Meaning this protects YOU and it protects the COMPANY. The amounts discussed can only be debited on the dates discussed. Its that simple. The company is not going to to draft an extra $200 from your account and risk a multi million dollar law suit.BENEFITS OF THE LOAN REHABILITATION PROGRAM:As stated above , there must be a remaining balance left over once you complete the program and you loan has funded. When this happens and you finish your payments quite a few things happen. First of all , you will be removed from a federal level default which means you are no longer subject to any tax offsets . Also , i may have forgot to mention , as soon as you begin making payments and you are locked in a protected status for a qualifying payment into the loan rehabilitation program you CANNOT BE GARNISHED , HAVE A JUDGEMENT OR LITIGATION PLACED A***NST YOU. However , your while in the loan rehabilitation program your taxes may still be offset until your loan does fund and you are removed from a federal default status. IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL - Your transcripts and ***le 4 Funding will be released once you make 6 CONSECUTIVE PAYMENTS in the loan rehabilitation program . Meaning you can go back to school with full financial aid , or if you are a parent , you then have the ability to cosign for your child on his/her student loans. Once you complete the loan rehabilitation program you will no longer acrue interest daily , you will be c****ed to a MONTHLY interest rate and PORTION OF THE FEES AND PENALTIES WILL BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILE . The exact amount is 18% . Also upon completion of the loan rehabilitation program this will be completely wiped from your credit report as if you NEVER HAD A STUDENT LOAN . Do not be discouraged this can take up to 90 days after completion of the program. You will also ***n back your deferment and forberance rights upon completion ; your loan size determining the amount of time you have to pay off your loan****IMPORTANT*****THE LOAN REHABILITATION IS A PRIVILEGE , THE COLLECTION AGENCY DOES NOT HAVE TO OFFER YOU REPAYMENT. ACCORDING TO THE PROMISARY NOTES THAT YOU SIGNED, BALANCE IN FULL WOULD BE DUE UPON THE FIRST DAY OF DEFAULT. However i have never heard of a agency not willing to offer a rehab to the debtor.HOW IS PAYMENT DETERMINED? THEY WANT A $6,000 DOWN PAYMENT?! I CANT DO THAT!!!Everything is balance driven. First the collector is most likely going to "update your information" on whats called a "Financial Statement" . This is going to take a general look at your income/expenses and more importantly , Your ability to pay. They will then place you on hold and come back with a few different payment options for Example A ....Lets call him Billy BobBilly Bob has a $49,257.39 student loan. First the collector will demand balance in full , then moving on to a settlement. After , you will proceed to update your financial statement and be given 3 payment options . They will look like this:30% $14,777 (Down payment)and $492 x 11 (being the monthly payment)20% $9851 (Down payment)and $587 x 11 (monthly payment)10% $4925 (Down payment)and $ 702 x 11 (monthly payment)If none of these are a option , the collector may get a "Second Talk Off" and have their supervisor or another collector hop on the phone to offer you a hardship or lower the down payments. Either way , in most cases they are willing to work with you.WHATS A HARDSHIP?!?!?!A HARDSHIP is the LOAN REHABILITATION PROGRAM only with a waived down payment , meaning you're doing straight monthly payments that are once a***n , balance driven . These payments are typically 1% to 1.5% of your balance , and can sometimes go as low as .5% . YOU WILL RECEIVE ALL THE SAME BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM ONLY AT A LOWERED RATE. The main reason collectors will offer pitch the down payment options is in hope that you actually have the money available. It may sound horrible , but your loss is our ***n. What we make off of you greatly determines our bonus check . No collector is there for their hourly wage , we're there for the bonus and in most cases , if you're doing your job right , collectors average anywhere between $6,000 to sometimes $15,000 per month after taxes . Which is why some collectors are rude...they are very money ***gry and driven. So please , do not be discouraged if you come across someone like this. Well i'm exhausted...this is longer than i thought it would be and my dog is yelling at me to let him outside , so i'm going to step off my soap box. I hope that i was able to shed some light on the situation and clarify a few key points from a collectors point of view . If you have any further questions please feel free to ask in the thread , or ***** me a email at [email protected] once a***n , this is your obligation and "Pay your **** debt"
Thats funny since defaulted student loan cant be discharged by bankruptcy.
I don't know who the***** this place thinks they are. The DoE is already getting money from me, and they haven't asked me for any more. Now I get this place calling my job and leaving messages for me *before* even trying to contact me at home. Now I'm in s**t with my supervisor, my manager, the dayshift manager, and the dayshift supervisor whose time they wasted. If this outfit is really representing the Dept. of Education they would have my current address and home phone (which haven't c****ed in 8 years)This place is definately hitting at least a 6 on Bu***hit-o-Meter.
Well, judging by the lack of grammar and spelling s****s and the abundant use of profanity which indicates a lack of vocabulary, I would say the above poster did NOT finish college. Sheesh. It is good to know what the number is, and I will most certainly call this man (Paul) back tomorrow and see what can be done. I thought it was taken care of, but apparently not. I know better than to mess with the government. However, having just recently lost my job, the old "you cannot get blood from a turnip" thing would seem to apply. To the others who gave honest posts, I thank you. To the most recent poster who just wanted to criticize others, judge, and cuss, I say ... well, a lady wouldn't say that.
be sure u pass my message on to all your little buddies there
heres the thing.... if u get a student loan IT STAYS WITH U FOR LIFE!!!! unless u pay it.... there is absolutely NO statute of limitations on it... it ***ns interest on a daily basis and will continue to go up unless u resolve it voluntarily... also if they garnish your wages taxes ssi or lottery winnings it will NEVER pay it off because it is being resolved involuntarily... u will continue getting calls from them untill u either get into some payment arangement OR tell them wrong number... if u state wrong number they can NOT call u back because its a***nst the FDCPA (fair debt collections practices act) which is a federal law and dont lie about them callin u after being told wrong number because every single thing being done on the phone is tracked and recorded by the computer thats connected to the phone and every line is recorded and every key pressed on the key board is recorded to the second (im talking time for u dumb people)... they (conserve) work for the dept of education, nella, south carolina, and other universities across the nation..... each dept within the facility has diff laws on how they collect but what im stating in this box is for the loans being collected for the dept of education... also 1 other thing.... they have very very many tools at their fingertips to find u.... if u filled out an application for anything at any time and given ANY personal info on it they have it... credit reports, a lil website called google, another website where they put your social security number in and *** every person who ever used that social security number on an application shows up with everything on it including your name, address, every address u ever had, any phone number u ever had, your date of birth, dead or not dead, male or female, anyone related to u and anyone who lives around u AND anyone u may have used as a reference on an application, dept of education is a federal agency NOT to be confused with the board of education 2 completely diff things the dept of ed is as stated a federal agency that means oh hey let me call my friends in the irs and dept of treasury and lets see some pay stubs... and then oh hey conserve heres so and sos address phone number and place of employment u have 90 days if they dont pay take it from their pay checks *** now your being garnished *** so those of u tellin them wrong number when u know **** well its u....STOP LYING!!! talk to the people and work so****ing out with them check out your options they have to offer and dont **** them off or u will be hit with a payment in full and if u dont pay it its listed as a direct refusal to pay and the dept of ed will find other means to get their money... student loans is the 2nd worst debt to have irs being the number 1... weather u dropped out of college or the school closed oh well... u will have nothing on your side of the story unless the school closed BEFORE u graduated and while your were still attending or if u dropped out before the cl***** s****ed or cl***** havent s****ed but u got your supplies already.... its like buying a movie ticket in a theatre.... u bought it its yours for life aint no gettin ya money back you got it non refundable enjoy.... that means ITS STILL YOUR GOD **** DEBT!!! if u were a co signer... guess what ITS YOUR DEBT TOO as well as the person u co signed for... what u 2 do for eachother in means of reinbursment is your problem the dept of education dont care if ur not the loan holder guess what YOU SHOULDNT HAVE SIGNED YOUR NAME.... and for those of u idiots in this blog when they call and ask for u its for a reason... they cant disclose ANYTHING to anyone without verifying who u are its federal law so they ask for your name first and THEN they ask for your year of birth because thats enough info to show iden***y in the federal govt eyes... if they ask for your last 4 of your social or even the whole thing its because the year of birth is not listed and thats how they would go about identifying u so yes jane d THEY ARE LEGIT SO ****.... it saves their a** because the feds want proof they are talkin to the right person and if u lie and say yes im so and so born in 1956 and its really not u.... guess what u got nothing on them because u identified your self as the borrower dont waste your time or money tring to sue for that u wont win and if u call in they be ready with your social cuz thats how they identify u... they wouldnt waste a MULTI thats MULTI thats more then $10million dollars a***n MULTI million dollar thats like close to $50million dollar contract on someone like u and that goes for credit card info and any personal info as well.... and also a***n jane doe... u dont take controll of the call... they do not u... u dont dictate any terms of the call u give what they want and work with them or face the federal consequences... if u own your own biz guess what.... LITAGATION *** where your business now... oh the feds own it nice!!! have a good F***IN day
I received a call at my office from Conserve on 3/31/09 866-598-2800. The message on my ma****e was very specific. It gave MY name with middle initial included. I have a *very* unusual name so I doubt it was mistake. I pulled my credit record, just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I do this every 4 months anyway so I didn't think there was any way I could have missed an account delinquent enough to be sent to collections
Looked them up - Conserve - a collection agency for Dept. of Ed. I was very upset seeing as I work TWO FULL TIME JOBS plus I do contract work on the side, to be able to pay my school loans. I pay them EVERY MONTH, and I always pay EARLY (by about 3 weeks). The number was legit so I call. I first give my name - can't find my account, gave the number at my office - she says there is no record of that call being made from their office (so then - who called?). I finally give her my social - a***n, no record. She recommends I call the Dept. of Ed collections dept. 800-621-3115. Checked the number - a***n, legit so I called. Gave my social, no record of having any delinquent accounts! DUH! Freaked the H out of me because I pay my bills. I'm thinking intentional infliction of emotional distress here. Totally not cool!I picked up the phone on this call thinking it was my doctor's office returning a call concerning my very ill wife. Turns out it was these jokers. They wanted to talk to my wife. I told them she was not available and asked them to leave a message. Instead of leaving a message I got questioned. I finally asked "Who is this?" The response I got was "Matt (can't remember last name)" and when I tried to find out what business he was from he was very elusive. Finally I got him to tell me he was from "New York" I said to him that my wife didn't know any Matt from New York. He replied "No, not personally" and he finally told me what company he was from and why he was calling. I told him I had to be off the phone quickly because we were waiting for a return call from our doctor, due to my wife being very ill, which was why she was unavailable. He took his sweet time in giving me the return phone number for her to call, then went so far as to say "I need to hear back from her today"!!!*****O??? What part of "She is ill and we're waiting for our doctor to call back" don't these people understand??? To make it worse, after I took the phone number the idiot kept yakking some more! I had to **** up on him in mid sentence to get off the phone with him!!! The idea that they would insist an ill person contact them immediately while keeping the phone line ******* so they cannot recieve the return call from the doctor tells me all I need to know about this ****ey Mouse outfit.
I READ ALL YOUR COMMENTS AFTER I GOT THE DREADED CALL FROM THEM TODAY 10-16-08 AND DECIDED TO CALL THEM AND COME CLEAN. THEY WERE EASY TO DEAL WITH THIS WAY AND ENDED TAKING $208.86 A MONTH FROM ME ON A $16K DEFAULTED LOAN. SO I PAY THIS FOR 10 YRS. DON'T **** THEM OFF ANY LONGER !!! WE DEFAULTED YEARS AGO AND THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW BROKE AND GUNNIN' FOR US !!! NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY ! CAN'T RUN ANY LONGER !!! WISH I HAD 11K FOR PAYOFF !!! CALL THEM AND AVOID GARNISHMENTS !!! DEFINATELY NOT THE WAY TO GO !!! FEEL FREE TO CALL ME PERSONALLY @ 256-962-8332 (TONY) IF YOU WANT TO TALK AND FIND OUT ABOUT THEM ... AND NO I DO NOT WORK FOR THEM, I DRIVE A TRUCK !!! GOODLUCK FELLOW DEADBEATS !!! :)
I had a message on my desk at my second job... saying to call these people CONSERVE ????? I called and they could not tell me who they were unless i have a account with them. I explained that i do not know who they are to have a account they wanted my name i said NO.... how did u get my phone number and I asked to speak with a manager this is very wierd. he said he will have to end this call and ***g up on me.???????????? who are these people
They called looking for someone and took down their number. They work for Dept of Education who steals money from poor people and if you already paid it off and they are calling you then I suggest you take control of the call.
A rather serious message was left for me on my voice mail saying I had a debt issue. I keep a close watch on my credit and I do not owe any debt. I call them and almost immediately they ask for my ss#. That told me they weren't legit.
These people called monday.Said they were collecting on a defaulted student loan of a local college that declared bankruptcy 10 years ago.
Here's My StoryGot a call from these folks, turns out it was conserve and i did owe a debt. Old student loan that i thought was out of date. hey tried to take some report about my income, i laughed and ***g up,. Next day like clock work got a call this time didnt even pick up let it go to vm. went on for like 2 weeks everyday like clockwork. I had fun with them a couple of times where i would pick up breath and **** up, stuff like that. Guess that was the wrong move. This all happen early summer. End up getting a letter from the IRS like i get every year and there taking my taxes. With my two children they are getting a ***k of money towards my student loan so ***** them i thought. Wrong move a***n. Theyse people kept calling my home and it got irratating. Next thing know the had my cell phone number 3 got dame days after i had it turned on through a huge wirless company. Then they found my job........... This is where the trouble s****ed. I didnt want them calling all the time so i decided to talk. I owed allot of money for my education and i wanted to s**** paying so****ing back. They finnally got through that income report thing and turns out they stated The dept of education was asking for about 6k down and about $500 a month. I laughed offered 50 bucks a month , they said no i told them to never call me a***n said somer profanties and ***g up. 2 weeks later i get a order to garnesh my wages form my human resources dept for 25%. Im like are u f'in kidding me? I tried to call and work so****ing out but i guess it was too late. Know im being garneshed over $1,000 a month and as i recall litigation through the dept of justice was a possibly. I try and talk with them but there answers are so vauge that i think i might be going jail or somthing. Or even worse my family and i may lose our home over my ******y. I should of just talked with them when i had chance and paid what was asked. Of course i didnt have 6k in the bankm but given that oppurtunity over a***n i would find some way to get it and i would have tooken the call allot more serious. Wor dof advice if they call you talk to them. If they have called you give them a call and work somthing out before its to late. Because the goverment is some sons of bi$%Hes for given a collection agency so much power. All im saying is take these people serious.
Got a call at work from this number. The said they are with Conserve, a debt collection agency, calling about a defaulted student loan. So far that's all I know. I'm looking further into it.
Have called twice so far from this number. Both times asking to speak with a Nancy who is not me. I say, "I think you have the wrong number." The person says, "okay" and then ****s up.
