I nearly fell for it. Instinct just told me to google the #. Somebody should help arrest/stop the great collaborator Verizon.

I just received an email answer to a for rent ad I just placed on Craigslist. It said : I saw your ad. Please call me asap. I dialed the number which fortunately was busy. I googled it and found out the number is a scam. I am sorry I did not google the number first.

Verizon's Response:Thank you for contacting the Verizon eCenter.  I have received your email dated 1/17/10 regarding a request for credits for direct dialed calls on your Verizon bill.   My name is John, and I will be happy to****ist you.I can understand the importance of your inquiry. Verizon’s Hidden Rip-off!  Beware Pay-Per-Call Phone ScamsHere is how it works. Scammers on Craigslist are ordering tough-to-identify pay-per-call phone numbers, and then list them on ads, baiting people to call and pay exorbitant fees. Common local exc****e codes for pay lines are 976, 940, 915, 556, 554, and 550. “Ordinary looking phone numbers, like (908-554-2787) that are pay-per-call, often for $10 a call. The latest scam is to contact people with Craigslist ads, asking them to call back at one of these numbers. The caller is charged $10 to leave a message on an answering ma****e.Verizon was aware of this activity since at least August and has done nothing to stop this. Innocent looking local 908 exc****e #’s are being used to rip off the unsuspecting public. I just got my Bill and I was charged for pay-per calls I was unaware of making. They REFUSE to reverse the charges. Verizon told me and I quote "you should have checked the number out before you dialed it". I would like to know what happened to the customer at***ude that the “customer is always right”! THERE SHOULD BE A RECORDING THAT IT IS A PAY-PER-CALL AND SHOULD GIVE PEOPLE THE OPTION TO ACCEPT IT OR NOT. Otherwise do not let these companies exist. I hold Verizon 100% responsible for this activity. In New York State pay per calls are outlawed using regular looking phone exc****es for this exact reason. Verizon you are no longer the only game in town and I have 3 phone lines worth of business to take elsewhere! I would suggest you c****e your at***ude real fast!

got an email from a craigslist add I posted to call someone at this number..it says can not be completed and he offered a second #.... i googled this number and came accross this scam posting. Hopefully I will not get a bill that I have to fight over.

also recieved a reply on ad placed on craigs list to call 908 554 2787 to provide more info.no answer verizon billed me $10.00.filled complaint with the BPU.cannot understand how verizon can continually allow this scam to rob people

If Verizon gives you trouble adjusting for this ripofff number, immediately contact the NJ Board of Public Utilities (for NJ residents).  I spent 3 days arguing with Verizon and then filed a complaint with the board -- my bill was corrected/adjusted by Verizon the next day!!!

THIS IS A SCAM - if you dial this # you will be CAHRGED $10 for 1 minute and your landline provider (for me  - VERIZON) DOES NOT and WILL NOT CARE about the SCAM charge.

I posted an apt for rent on Craigslist and received the following e-mail in return: "Hello, I just saw your ad on craigslist and I would appreciate it if you would give me a quick call. Call me right away at 908 554 2787  I won't have access to email." The e-mail address came across as "[email protected]"

I received an e-mail in response to an ad on Craigslist and the sender provided this number.  I called, left a message and then had a $10.00 charge on my phone bill.  Any ideas on where this can be reported to put a stop to it?

I tried calling this number and got the same as everyone else.  however his e mail is not shielded so maybe we can send him tons of e mails and flood his account!  give him same as he is giving us!

This is a scam and will be billed to your phone number. Dont call it. I work for Verizon

I also received an email in response to a Craigslist listing.  I thought it was strange as the subject line didn't indicate the specific item.  I'm glad I checked here, though I did call the number and got a fast busy.  I will see if I can report it to CL though I doubt there's anything they can do.

I received the same email and called back. Now there is a $10 charge on my verizon bill and they won't remove the charge. Be careful!

I posted an ad on Craigslist and received a message similar to those above.  I googled this phone number, as the message was sort of ***ue and somewhat su****ious.  I found this site and see all these other people who are being scammed by this person.  This needs to be addressed so more people aren't affected by this crime.

This is a SCAM.  Call your phone Co.and request that they remove the charge. Also call or email Craigs List or whatever website posted your listing.

I got a email saying same thing  a relocate interested im my apt. on Craig's list call this number 908 554 2787 , a fast busy signal.

I keep getting emails from this # for my apt. on Craigslist, asking me to call this number.  I must have gotten 6 emails at different times.  After dialing this # it's a fast busy sygnal.

Any clue where this is from?
