SCAM SCAM SCAM These people called my mother (76) in California and told her they are the IRS Hotline. They told her the check she sent them was not acceptable or so****ing like that and demanded that she give them her credit card information over the phone. She was confused and talked with them and they went on to yell at her and told her the Sacramento police were on the way to arrest her and that she was going to jail. Fortunately she called her bank instead of giving them her credit card info. They had her call the police and they said they'd take care of it - cough cough. I hope this helps others out there handle this without being as upset as they made my mom. Thank God she didn't fall for this.
Definitely sounded like call center, with heavy accent ... could not*****ounce my name correctly .... said she was with IRS and when I laughed and asked, "oh are you?" she was annoyed and asked why am I laughing. Promptly ***g up the phone.
There were a woman first and then a man, introduced as a manager. They both had kind of accent. The man was telling me in a very aggressive manner that my husband and I underpaid our taxes for 10 years intentionally. They threatened me to be arrested by a police immediately or pay now around $3000. They insisted I not disconnect the phone line and follow their instructions. When the man s****ed asking me about my bank account I stopped talking to him.
There were two men on the call. They both had some kind of accent and they were telling me that I owed the IRS around $2800.00 because I filed my income taxes wrong for a few years. They said I could pay up now or they would take further legal action. I told them to take further legal action. They implied I would be contacted by the State Police. I'm in Florida and they called using a Washington, DC number.
"IRS taking legal action a***nst my name. Call back very urgently." It was a woman with an Indian accent going by the name of Johnnie. Background noise sounded like she was in a call center.
