Caller from 202-241-7137 said he's calling from the Department of Treasury, left voicemail looking for me by name, instructing me to call back as soon as possible because it's regarding a law enforcement matter. I called back, got a lady with thick Indian accent and noisy background lots of chatter (perhaps a call center), she asked me to confirm the number where I received the message, then she said yes this is about an arrest warrant issued in my name regarding $3,900 unpaid taxes from 2010, no bail amount (really?) and someone will come to arrest me in 45 minutes. I barely stopped myself from laughing out loud-- I told her I want to speak with a supervisor and I want to work this out in writing with exc****e of legal papers, etc. She refused to transfer me or talk further, she said she cannot take money or negotiate over the phone, she said someone will come by my house to arrest me, and she ***g up. THIS IS A SCAM, THEY ARE TRYING TO CONFIRM YOUR NAME MATCHES THE PHONE NUMBER THEY CALLED, PERHAPS ALSO ADDRESS INFO AND OTHER INFO THEY MAY ALREADY HAVE... DON'T FALL FOR IT, REPORT THE NUMBER TO FEDERAL AUTHORITIES, FBI OR FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION OR FCC.
