A man with an Indian accent claimed to be "James" from the "National Gifting Center" in New York. He told me my name and address and asked me to confirm, which I did. He then said he wanted to get some information from me to confirm a "coupon" with my name on it. I asked him to repeat the name of his organization. I don't accept commercial calls as a rule so when he launched in a***n I said I wasn't interested and ***g up. He called back immediately. He told me I had won a gift and that I had filled out this "coupon" on Dec. 18, 2006. The gifts I could choose from were vacations, including a Caribbean cruise. He said at the end of the call he would give me the location of the local gifting center where I could pick up my gift. His first question was whom I would be taking with me- male or female, co-worker or friend. I hedged and asked for the location and number of the local gifting center. He wouldn't tell me. I asked for his number to call him back; he wouldn't tell me. I said I wasn't interested and he hasn't called back so far. I'm curious about what the scam is, but nervous because I wonder how much info he has already.
