I am trying to find out who is calling him
Lewis I got 2 calls from this # today (202-704-4872). Left the same recording on my voice mail twice. Claims to be from the IRS and is calling me to inform me that the IRS is filing "lawsuits" a***nst me. This is a scam. I'm 100% sure, and here's why: As someone who had my share of run-ins with the IRS, here are the facts that everyone should know: 1. The IRS does not file "lawsuits" a***nst tax payers. They don't need to, because they already have the authority, and the power, to to garnish wages, and to seize****ets. 2. But, long before they take any collection action, they will send multiple letters informing the tax payer that they want a tax return filed, or that there is a discrepancy. In these mailings they will explain what is happening, will explain one's rights as a tax payer, will give a deadline, will offer ways to pay the tax owed in increments, and will provide not only a phone number, but also a mailing address for paying the tax, filing the return, or providing supporting do***ents for the tax payer to show why he/she does not agree with the IRS claim. Only if the tax payer fails to make any sincere effort to resolve the issues does the IRS take action. And, even then, they will notify the tax evader by registered mail of what they are doing. They then can seize****ets (bank accounts, cars, investments) without ever going to court. And if the seizures don't cover the tax bill they will have the tax dodger thrown in jail, since tax evasion is a felony. So, bottom line is, any phone call about an IRS 'lawsuit' is a joke. But, feel free to ask the caller to tell you your full name, address, the tax year for which he claims that you are being sued, and the amount that you owe. I doubt that they can give you sensible answers to these basic questions. Then do your best Donald Trump imitation, and tell the scammer what a worthless excuse for a human being he/she is and **** up. Then call your congressman/congresswomen and inform them what has occurred. Every member of congress (senators and representatives) have someone on their staff that deals exclusively with the IRS, and they will usually be happy to****ist you (especially in an election year)! You should also contact your local IRS office. You will have to give them your name, address. SSN, and date of birth in order for them to look up your file... if you want to be sure that there are no problems between you and the IRS.
Called me and reported that I have a law suit a***nst me by the IRS for about 3 years ago. This is not true. The amount of the lawsuit is over $2000. Beware of scams like this!
