Informational Post : ***Warning*** This is a scam originating from several Caribbean islands, including Gre***a (area code 473), Dominica (area code 767), Jamaica (area code 876), Montserrat (area code 664), Turks and Caicos Islands (area code 649), Antigua and Barbuda (area code 268), Barbados (area code 246), and Anguilla (area code 264). This scam seems to have s****ed in Gre***a and has quickly spread to a number of other Caribbean islands. Here’s a link to all of the Caribbean area codes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_codes_in_the_Caribbean The original scam attempted to lure the called party to return the call to the Caribbean number by calling at inappropriate times (e.g., early morning), ringing only once or twice, and not leaving a message. The called party would incur international and other phone charges for a return call, with a portion of the proceeds going to the scammers. The latest iterations of this scam have combined the cramming feature with other scams (i.e., prizes, debt collections, “computer virus” problems, etc.).
